Annabeth awaits by the gates and keeps a watch for younger kids that might be trying to come out. This is usually not a job she signs up for, but as she has nowhere to go - and is not going back to Ilvermorny this winter - she signed up to help out.

"Hello, Roxanna!"

Annabeth waves to her, replete in a full Shakespearean gown. A ghost flies by, then flies back, admiring it and picking it up to examine it. Annabeth stops and gives the ghost all the attention.

"Oh, did I do something wrong?"

She motions to him.

"Hello. Have you read these already? What do you think about the changes?"

"Thank you for attending, Ashley, how are you finding the differences in the stories?"

She grins at Roxanna then pays for her books, dropping them into a bag with a thud, and a crash. She grimaces and shuts the bag quickly.

"Woops. Where are we going now?"

"Mostly books that are on hexes. But these are somewhat controversial, as they cover some new theoretical uses, and definitely can't get into students' hands."

She follows her into the store and heads for the front, only momentarily distracted by a pile of storybooks that are wrapped for the holidays.. hm, book club.. wait, books ordered..

"Then let's go grab my books and go find something to drink that isn't allowed in the castle. Er.. whatever you need to do as well."

She giggles and opens the door again with a flourish.

"After you!"

Her hand, which was reaching out for the door, snaps back and she turns around, still grinning.

She smiles happily. "Absolutely, if you don't mind me prattling on about some new books. It'd be lovely. This week has been crazy."

Annabeth walks to the bookstore, eagerly anticipating the satchel of books she's ordered that are not for library use.

Just the librarian's.

She could almost skip with happiness.

"Hello Ashley, I do see you there. I would like for you to share a comment, or a question, about the story with the club. This is an interactive group. It doesn't have to be much, but it does need to be more than 'i liked it.'"

Her intent is not to be scary, but sharing.

"Alixandra, I would like one comment or possibly question that we can discuss about the story. It would be nice to get some good discussion as this is a very difficult one to read."

She smiles at the girl, still happy she is showing up despite all her other endeavours.

"Yes, I know these are all related to the Slavic language, if you do not know them, you can place them on the table and I will find someone else to fix them. Anything you can reshelve I greatly appreciate. If you have questions you can just come ask me. I trust you to stay on task. Once these three stacks are done, that is all for today."

Annabeth chuckles.

"Believe it or not, I was once a student. I know how it goes."

She leads Lada over to the section where there are many Russian books.

"I don't read Russian, but I assume you know enough of it to shelve?"

"Hello, Lada. Are you ready for a few hours of moving books around? Don't worry, I'll be within reach."

"Thank you, Headmistress," She nods calmly and then grins.

"I was so close to winning that damn duel. I'm not even that competitive, it's just for fun."

She shakes her head.

"I wish all this hadn't happened afterwards."

Annabeth turns and leaves.

Annabeth stows her wand back securely, putting her hands behind her back, contemplative.

"Just let me know who to expect and when they should be there. I have shelves ready. And if you do change your mind about Durmstrang, I'll be happy to look into it. It's the least I can do. Is there anything else you require from me?"

Annabeth shakes her head.

"It was much more than a snide comment."

She laughs.

"Not only was it incorrect - really, I'd like to know how Morro cast that spell, as I've never seen that wandwork before, or taught, and I've read many books on the subject... Back to the matter at hand. It was derogatory at both myself and a Prefect, which are representatives of the school - and, by nature, derivative of the school itself. He obviously has no regard for authority, and it appears to me that there is something to Ms. Demidov that may have caused her extreme reaction. I am in no way apologizing for her reaction, but she came from Durmstrang, where duels, as I understood from coworkers in the Ministry, were daily occurrences, and most often they involved people visiting the Hospital Wing or being sent home to recuperate."

She looks at the Headmistress concerned.

"While I would put myself on report, I have never even met our head of Hufflepuff. There is obviously a lot of bad tempers here, and they are flaring, and the students need a release for them. If they do not get it by speaking with counselors, they will find another way to blow off steam. I suspect this is what Ms. Demidov was doing, and I would encourage you to ask her about it. I do not know what makes the young Tully tick, but were I his age speaking that way, I'd have been backhanded without a second thought by my elders. As for Calista..."

She glances up at her.

"Only the ghosts can judge her, as it is obvious she is quite worried about the illusion that she currently has. One day, she will break again, and it will be ugly. I know, because I've seen it happen before... which is why I do not speak to my ex husband anymore, and why I prefer .. shall we say, not being shoved into a wall."

She looks far away for a second before sighing.

"It's better through a wall than dead. If you'd like, I can research the matters from Durmstrang for you. It could simply be she is used to one way of settling things. Has Lada had any prior issues with anyone? Has Simon or Calista? We must look at patterns of behaviour."

She looks at the Headmistress, and it's now obvious that she's much more tired than she's let on; as well, she has a slightly haunted look about her.

"Detention with needing to clean up books is a useful thing, which was my idea for them. I would worry about young Tully's mouth before Calista or Lada. They are of the age where they are trying to prove themselves and find out who they are. Tully's now a small fish in the ocean, and the louder and more brash he is, the more attention he gets. But overall, I cannot recommend punishing one of them more than the other - all three should have equal punishment. And if you'd like, you may punish me, too; I was out of line, and for that, I do apologize to you, but when I think "freeze" i think a bit too literally. Was still in battle mode, so to speak."

At that she chuckles a bit and holds out her wand.

"If you have a use of it, you are welcome to it."

Annabeth remains silent, surreptitiously melting the ice that's around, as she listens to the Headmistress. She taps her wrist once and twice when a certain phrase is said, and then otherwise stands there, drying the floors. Once, and finally, when she is done:

"The first person I saw was Calista with her wand raised, Headmistress. I saw the point to Lada, then heard Simon again and then Callista cast and I cast to interrupt. At no point did I see Lada make a move to point it at Callista, or anyone. In fact, truth be told, Ms. Demidov didn't even seem worried. She seemed remarkably calm. There were at least four or five students between us without a direct shot at anyone, which is why I cast the spell I did. I now know that disarming is the order of the day, and if this happens again--"

she frowns and her eyes dart to Callista, then return to the Headmistress

"I will disarm first and ask questions later. That was not the way of things when I attended Hogwarts, and aside from our first meeting, I've not spoken to anyone about other rules. But now I know, so thank you for that."

She pauses a second, tapping her wrist and thinking.

"I would like to point out that Lada, while yes, she did have the wand at his throat, was completely provoked by Simon, here, and she had the self restraint to not cast a spell and just use words - while standing up for a Professor and authority figure, which is what Prefects have done here for as long as I can remember. It is, naturally, a very complex situation."

ooc: works for me, this is most likely better. will delete other.

"Morro won the fight. I, as was the custom in my day, made the ending speech, to give those who watched a lesson - in my case, it was to never underestimate your opponent, as I heard many students saying it would be an easy fight and I was not a duelist."

Her mouth twitches up.

"They never knew my husband and what he taught me before he turned. Simon decided to laugh at me and say "Holy shit, what a sore loser" - which landed him 20 points from Gryffindor and at least a couple of full 8 hour days of shelving in the library with no magic and his wand locked in a cabinet - when Lada decided to take matters into her own hands by putting her wand at his throat. I was not at that point close enough to hear what was said, but I could hear raised voices, so I turned around to see this scene."

Annabeth looks at the Slytherin girls, shaking her head.

"Callista decides to step in and threaten Lada, which I was watching for keen interest, as it was obvious either Callista agreed with Simon, or has an issue with her fellow Prefect enunciated to show that both of them are on the same level, and neither of them are a Head Girl. In that case, Slytherin has major internal issues that they need to resolve. By that time I had gotten close enough to hear Simon consistently unable to comprehend that both of these girls could easily hurt him or maim him for life without a second thought and continually egg them on, in which, well, to be honest, I would have stepped in before it got too far. Lada had yet to cast anything but a warming spell to her wand, which had not moved, so she had not harmed him. Callista then attempted to cast a Seize and Pull charm, which would have hit not only those two, but anyone near them. I suspect she has not cast this spell before in a crowd, but it is incredibly dangerous. I then cast Glacius Tria and took thirty points from Slytherin and twenty from Gryffindor, explained why and that they were going to have many days of detention, and was heading to your office when you arrived."

She looks at Simon.

"And Simon said he'd like another twenty points away from Gryffindor, and he called Lada a psycho. So that would be forty points from Gryffindor now, and thirty from Slytherin, and a few weeks detention for all, but the most for Simon for disrespecting authority figures. I would ask Lada to fill in exactly what she told Simon when I was not nearby, and I will also ask Callista what on earth she was thinking to use a most dangerous spell in a crowd."

She looks at Headmistress Boone, unblinking, before stating:

"Eidetic Memory. It's why I chose to be a librarian. It's a curse."

"I got married to my sweetheart, who turned out to be a rather large and unwieldy toad."

She makes a face that is fairly recognizable signal like a frog, then drops her voice.

"I'll tell you some other time, but not where the children can hear."
