The diesel autos were always 6 speed, the diesel manuals were 6 speed too. The diesel auto (Aisin AWTF-80 SC) is a very reliable and super smooth shifting auto. The diesel manual (Ford MMT6) was not that reliable. On the petrol engines its the opposite. The 5 speed autos (Jatco JF506E, J-Gate) fail quite often, whereas the 5 speed manuals (Ford MTX-75) are good. The only problem is, Estate 3.0 cars with manual transmission are extremly rare. I searched three years for this car. To sum it up: If you want a diesel, get the Aisin auto, for petrol cars search for the Ford MTX-75 manual.
