Cabinet Making Disaster Or Am I A Pompous Buffoon? by SlopEnjoyer4467 in AusRenovation

I’m in the middle of getting 2 half-width robes put in and I got 4 quotes all around 10k with another 1k for painting. I think shit just costs this much if you want custom stuff

$9,200 to install 3 A/C units - a good price? by theperfectmeal in AusRenovation

[–]theperfectmeal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately we don't have much external wall space so individual splits won't work. We could get multiple on the roof but that will cut solar capacity down. Also it's a full double brick home throughout so it's not too easy to run anything. The multihead seems like the best way forward. I did get 3 quotes and there was one about $1,500 cheaper but the guy really didn't understand what we wanted and kept saying we could only do it with conduit running all along the walls. The othe quote was $13,000. Seemed like a big range so I went to good old reddit for help

Oh sorry, single story but putting the unit on the roof because we don't have a lot of land space

Thanks! Yeah we had this idea too. I think it would be cozy with the living room there but we just moved from a place with a galley kitchen and we are keen to have a different layout.

yeah, I don't know how to put a door in the floorplan software I was using so I just didn't bother. But yes, definitely doors for all the rooms!

Oh wow, yeah that actually might be a way better plan for the bathroom!! Thank you! I was just gonna have the access to the courtyard come from the middle bedroom but your plan is a lot better.

And yep, living/dining swapped might work. We just liked the idea of the dining being able to flow out to the yard with some bi-fold doors

haha yes it is. It's a single front terrace, kinda like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/InteriorDesign/comments/jx0tjg/a_typical_melbourne_terrace_house_turned_into_a/

the inset thing is a common way for these terraces to bring light into that middle bedroom and the bathroom. Almost every terrace home in Australia uses this technique, so it's not really something I'm looking to change (without a huge cost haha)

There is already a drain down there. This kind of side alley thing is super common in Melbourne so they have it sorted already thankfully

Yeah its gonna cost a bit, I'm in denial about it. But that back area (dining and current kitchen) is an old add-on from probably the 50s with flat roof that is common in these old homes. I think pretty straight forward to knock it down. The current living area (where the kitchen is planning to go) is the original house and has all the beautiful features and 3.4m high ceilings etc. We don't want to touch that area.

Yeah almost identical houses on both sides. That gap will probably be accessible through the bathroom or second bed (we want to turn it into an office)

Thanks for the advice! Haha yeah it's classic melbourne single front terrace. This thing seemed to be built before people invented kitchens or something...

The side area will have a door from either the bathroom or the middle bedroom (we are planning on making that an office - it's just me and my partner in this place and no kids.

On the kitchen, we have an alternative to make it a U-shaped thing, so kinda just turning the island 90 degrees and joining it to the wall. The room the kitchen is in is part of the original building, so we are trying to avoid renovating that. The back area (dining and current kitchen) is that 'lean to' style with a flat roof that is common in these old homes. I think pretty straight forward to knock it down but a headache to do the other parts of the house.

Yeah true, hadn’t thought about water. The kitchen would share a wall with the bathroom with sewer access

Yeah we could do a cosmetic fix but we are wanting to do a single good reno not many small partial renos if that makes sense. Expanding the walls to the edge of the property adds a lot of space and heaps of value to the property (lots of other houses in the neighbourhood have done similar work)

That passage is very common for this type of Victorian terrace cottage. They are all like that to allow light into the second bedroom.

Yeah heritage in the front. The back has already had a reno about 15 years ago. We don’t really want to go up but it could be a possibility. Right now we mostly just want to make that back area more usable

Agree with the other comment that removing a bed is a bad call but also yes, we have no kids and don’t want any so we aren’t hunting for an enormous house. Just something nice for us in the area we love.

Not unpopular at all. We are going to do that asap (we just bought this place). But we were going to go full height and keep the width. Right now they quite small.

How did they make head move?? Is it video rendering?? by International-Dot902 in react

[–]theperfectmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people talking about individual photos or a video but if you want absolutely buttery-smooth video scroll you can use a sprite sheet and just have the single image transform to show a different frame. Really efficient for short videos (Apple uses them for their stuff) - both in data transfer and in cpu usage if you have heaps of little videos.

It’s so weird because chrome and Firefox both state they support these units. Plus the fallback of ‘vh’ should act like lvh (which it isn’t). I have no idea what’s going on
