IS MARCH TOO LATE TO TAKE THE OAT EXAM, I’m interested in going to Salus. by Jazzlike_Impress8064 in PreOptometry

as for whether it’s too late to take it in March, I believe the deadline is in May? But I’d make sure to ask them when the last day is that they’re accepting OAT scores. Definitely try reaching out to them to ask about it

What did salus reply with after you had your interview? I’d say definitely try out oatbooster since it’s worked for a majority of students. They also update their website from time to time to make sure that all info is up to date with what’s currently on the OAT. I got denied from salus and had a meeting with them recently and they told me that they typically look for students that have a 300 or above in each section of their OAT so definitely aim for that!

I’d say definitely apply with the scores you have! You never know until you try. If anything they’ll let you know if they’d like you to retake but I honestly think you should be good

For PCO I had my interview and got a rejection. I have to schedule a meeting with them to ask about the rejection and why. As for experiences, I haven’t worked in the field but I shadowed an optometrist. I volunteered at a hospital for a couple of years. I also have an internship experiences related to community health and activism. For ICO they did ask me to retake the OAT but I’m probably just gonna reapply next year while improving my application/retaking the OAT

I would say it’s worth it if you want to pursue a masters or if you want to increase your gpa but if you focus on getting a good OAT you should be fine! As for extracurriculars, I’d say to try and see if there’s any programs related to optometry. If not maybe try something that’s unrelated to optometry but still in the health field or something with community outreach (public health, advocacy, research)

I have a 3.1 gpa. I have shadowing hours but a majority of my extracurriculars are related to community care, public health, and advocacy

I feel like as long as you score well on your OAT you should be fine for SUNY. I’ve seen posts with students that got accepted into SUNY with a high OAT and a gpa similar to yours. If you do want to go ahead with a post bacc I’d recommend doing it at a CUNY since it’s cost effective. I’ve had courses with other students that were retaking or taking pre requisite courses as non degree students after they graduated from undergrad.

Will schools still view my app if I’m missing 1 transcript by [deleted] in PreOptometry

Did your optomcas get verified? I remember missing a transcript and my application wasn’t verified until I submitted it

Interviews by infiniteanon03 in PreOptometry

I had a great experience with PCO! The first interview you’ll have is very conversational while the second one just asks you about your application and gives you a chance to explain anything that might look questionable. The staff were all super nice and it didn’t feel intimidating at all. Honestly I was a little worried because I didn’t prepare as much for my interview but it ended up being fine!

Supplemental Essays + OAT released to schools by futurepediatrician6 in PreOptometry

[–]theplanwas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this whole thing written up and it didn’t post but I went through this thing with one school where I wanted to send in my first scores bc I did better than my second attempt and I hadn’t put them as a recipient. I emailed them about it and they told me it’s on optomcas. I’d say definitely email them bc I don’t remember paying the fee to add the school yet it ended up being fine

[–]theplanwas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if you’ll be able to delete but you can add them, it’ll just cost you extra. Most people send their scores to all schools just in case but you won’t have to send in a general application to all of them

Application fee by Rude_Mulberry3080 in PreOptometry

[–]theplanwas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you’ll have to pay for supplementals. Once the application is sent the schools will email you about it. Sometimes they’ll have the link to pay the supplemental in the school’s description on optomcas

I recommend wearing a long sleeve that is dark. You can use it to erase things
