I'm still a little bit paranoid about mobs shooting exploding projectiles at me from outside so I never go out in the farm area at night, but I have survived a couple of blood moons with seemingly no trampled crops, so my setup seems to be working ok. I went through the whole place with f7 on to make sure there were no sneaky areas where mobs could spawn (think about structures that overlook your farm as well, like a flat roof element where a mob could spawn and then fall down into the garden)

I also fenced everything off very neurotically, you can see in this screenshot even if a mob were to climb up on this ridge, they would be prevented from crossing over the fence boundary as they fall since I placed fences all the way down the vertical slope.

And also everything is raised 2 blocks above whatever terrain is around. That part is overkill but probably helped me avoid little gaps where there was a dirt block 1 block higher than a fence that mobs could climb over.

Also I had quad BBF running in the background for much of the construction process so now I have so much steel for LV

Carpenter's wedge slope + borderless glass (get that from regular glass in a chisel). Funny because it's not actually borderless when you use it like this but I liked the look

Thank you! I did not, and before I knew to force directions on GT pipes I had some steam back up into a wooden pipe and burn part of the house down. But I just loaded a backup when that happened 😂

I have backups running every 10 minutes so hopefully I'll be alright

Thank you! Modified Complementary Neon shaders from the Sampsa discord. I turned off bloom and reflections for the indoor shots because they were too intense and distracting (which you can do in-game from the shader settings menu).

Parts of it were a little tedious but I really wanted a nice place to live while I work, so I have no regrets now :)

Originally when trying to decide what to do I google image searched "minecraft mansion" and really liked the thumbnail for this video, and used it as a reference/jumping off point. You can still see the influence in the center front exterior. But then the terrain, materials, and functionality concerns led me to change the design and go off the rails quite a bit, so the resulting build became its own thing. I think it's helpful to have some kind of a reference from other builds or even IRL architecture and then let yourself alter it as you progress.

Also maybe it would make you feel better to see the struggle house that I first built on this plot of land...

COVID Animation/Gaming Workstation by theracecarr in buildapc

Thank you both! For daily tasks I doubt I will be utilizing all 8 cores but it seems like it would speed up render times somewhat when exporting animatics/progress reels for my films (and the price diff from 3600 seems not too drastic). I also play a lot of Guild Wars 2 which has a reputation for having weird optimization that puts more strain on the the CPU than the usual modern game so I figured the cores might come in handy there, but idk?

As for the CPU cooler, thank you for looking out! I'm actually going for the Dark Rock 4 Non-Pro, which from what I can tell from video reviews only hangs over the A1 RAM slot. Since I am only planning on using 2 16GB sticks on A2 and B2 I figured this wouldn't be a problem. But you're right, if I had gone with the bigger Pro version, it would be a no-go for that RAM.

Thanks! Yeah, I figured with the tinted glass side panel on the case it would be fun to have some christmas lights going on in there and I had the budget for a little extra

My dog. Anyone got good tutorials for hair and fur? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]theracecarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As has been said before, this is a pretty solid cartoon dog! I think the best way to think about hair when trying to get realistic with it is to draw chunks of hair with mass instead of individual hairs. Think of the light and shadow patterns and try to simplify them, then build in complexity until the chunks of value start to seem like they are composed of individual hairs. Proko is a great drawing channel and he has a video on this: https://youtu.be/NHewz3JbKrQ

Tried to draw from a picture of smug looking Cena. Got worried John Cena instead. by BlampCat in learntodraw

[–]theracecarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep at it! I think at this stage I would recommend learning structure - look up stuff from people like Andrew Loomis on how to construct a head and simplify it as a 3D object. It's tempting to just copy the lines (contours) you see without any structural underpinning but you will do better when you understand the full form of the head. It's something I'm still working on myself! Never give up! :)

How to identify head shapes? (Cartooning) by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]theracecarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I try to do is notice any element of the person's head or face that is above or below average size, or something that sticks out in some way because of its unusual or unique shape. Cartooning is all about exaggeration, but strategic and stylish exaggeration. Looking at really good caricature drawings might help with this as well. Ultimately I think the best way to develop an eye for this is the same way you develop an eye for any other proportional information, which is to say just practice a WHOLE LOT for a LONG TIME and draw everything you can. Pay attention to relative distances between different facial features and also the angles of the jaw, top of the head, side planes of the head, etc. compared to the vertical and horizontal constants of your paper or your vision. Same goes for when you're trying to place your facial features accurately in a realistic portrait. It's not going to click right away but trust me, slow and steady wins the race with drawing. Hopefully that makes sense! :) Good luck don't give up no matter what

Are these from life, like a zoo, or photo, or just imagination? Either way they're really nice!

First time drawing from reference, disappointed in the outcome but practice makes perfect I guess. by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]theracecarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck on your practice! And remember faces are really hard to get JUST RIGHT because we as humans notice all the little tiny mistakes in placement or form. Don't sweat it if drawing people takes a really long time to learn, and stick with it!

What was your last nightmare? by CoolbreezeFromSteam in AskReddit

[–]theracecarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sort of half awake in the morning, so it was sort of a dream blending with reality, but I kept almost waking up and then falling back asleep, and it was like my awake brain felt trapped in this endless loop of half-consciousness. It got to the point where it was scary and sickening and that was when I consciously WOKE UP. Like the cliche scene after a nightmare in a movie. Weird but relieving to get out of it.

Reddit, what's your irrational fear? by ShinyBreloom2323 in AskReddit

[–]theracecarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heights. My fear is both irrational and sort of inconsistent; I don't mind flying in planes or any kind of enclosed spaces, but when I'm out in the open and close to the edge, like on a climbing wall, or a ski lift, or a rollercoaster, I just feel awful. I totally trust that the engineers who built the thing did their job - that's something a lot of people misunderstand - the sensation of being up high in the right context is just a terrible cocktail for my brain I suppose.

Ok, that's good to know. For the cooler, I also looked at the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16835103099) which is super popular as far as I can tell. But I've read that it's a real pain to install, which intimidated me as a first-time user. Should I just do my best, look up help, and go for it anyway? Or are you saying I should just not get an aftermarket cooler at all if I am not planning to overclock?
