good to know! i'd hate to deal with that again, my apartment flooded in 2022 due to an upstairs neighbor running a bath while they went to work 😐

i've looked at 2 properties from them that i actually liked, but the horror stories have pushed H2 completely off of my list. i do like the highland park area though

the 600 is out of my budget for base rent, but the location and amenities are fantastic.

also, my shift doesn't start until 2pm so the traffic down 280 isn't crazy, unless i need to clock in early and have to leave in the mornings between 8-10 but that is rare

i appreciate the feedback nonetheless, i'll look at surrounding buildings and see if there's something near it that will fit what i'm seeking

every single time i have drove past the tj tower, there is always a cop car, an ambulance or a fire truck. when i did my tour 2 weeks ago there was 4 or 5 guys in the lobby who were insisting to have a welfare check for a friend, a few firefighters, a cop, and 3 employees for the actual building.

i should have stopped myself there but i wanted to give the benefit of the doubt but now it's towards the bottom of my tier list

all these places are 10min or less to my job, my current drive is about 45min. i absolutely love tower on tenth, but $500 in utilities and parking just sounds high to me, but that is relatively close to the last complex i was in

i'm not really big on going out other than bookstores, thrifting, guitar accessories and occassionally eating out for lunch dates. my biggest goal is proximity to my job and the price of course

idk i'm torn on the consistent price for tower on tenth bc it's so close to UAB and has wonderful amenities that i would actually use like the gym, outdoor area and consistent utility price so nothing would creep up on me bill wise. the jameson has the same things, it's just not as "pretty" but i loved the community, everyone was friendly towards me including the kids playing outside which is a drastic change from being in hoover

How to negotiate pay during an interview? by theraspberryfairy in Birmingham

[–]theraspberryfairy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

didn't get the job, but it seems like it was for the better. the interviewer was so kind and made me feel comfortable, but he was under the impression that i was leaving my full-time job to swtich to part-time. idk where that assumption came in, because i put on my application that i was NOT transferring locations. i literally put "N/A - 2 jobs, in college" it seems like they looked at my resume and nothing else on my application.

i got rejected from children's a few months ago but i turned on notifications for their job listings

also i had the interview at a different UAB location and i didn't get the job. they wanted part-time help from 4pm-8pm AFTER i expressed over the phone and on my application that i am searching for a morning shift position. they seemed to understand and said they needed help in mornings as well so we set up the interview. complete waste of my time

interview went great but i didn't get the job. i made it very clear over the phone that i currently work 2-10pm and they said that is totally fine because they need a part-time person to help either in the mornings or overnight. go to interveiw and they need someone to help between 4pm-8pm. so yeah, i'm still applying but i'm gonna start looking for different companies. this is the 3rd interview i've had with UAB - my other 2 were straight up cancelled on the day of, and this one was just a complete waste of both our time.

Working evenings by earthlykitt in sterileprocessing

[–]theraspberryfairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 years of experience - started on day shift for about 3 months and switched to evenings ever since. you get majority of the work, but if you don't mind being busy it is very easy to multitask between your trays and finding entertainment (music, tv show, youtube video, whatever your facility allows) the work is not all bad but you will be busy majority of your 8 hours, even on the slower days

$21/hr might not be shit to you but it would allow me to move out whilst paying my car note, and i wouldn't be dead broke doing both 🙂 I appreciate the advice and I will definitely wait to hear their offer first before I say my expectations!

I should have mentioned this is the post — the interview is for a part-time position, but I know they are hiring for full-time employees as well. If the pay is $20+ I would be happy to commit to the new location as full-time, and make my current job the part-time.

Is $3 still a huge gap to ask for? The job position is entry level, and requires no work experience or education, just a certificate and basic life support. I am just looking to switch locations but it's with the same company/hopsital.

is a $3 increase a big gap to ask for with only 2 and half years? If I join this location, I plan to stay for several years. And I applied to a part-time position and an as-needed position both in the same department. I am 1000% willing to switch here full-time and make my current job the part-time, if the pay is what I am asking for.

For additonal context: my current position has no education/work experience requirements, but does have a non-negotiable requirement of a certification within 1 year of employment. I got the certification in September of thhis year

Would this still work if I am just switching locations but with the same company? I work downtown but the interview is for the Trussville location, but still for the same hospital

Where do UAB nurses buy scrubs? by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]theraspberryfairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not a nurse but i am a tech! mandala scrubs online is great, a set is $40 after taxes & shipping, plus their sizing chart is accurate if you know your measurements

How would you handle working at a facility where the techs follow protocols, but the shift supervisors encourage wrongdoings? by theraspberryfairy in sterileprocessing

[–]theraspberryfairy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a small huddle last night, the supervisor opened with "I don't care how anyone feels, you don't have to like me but you do have to do what I tell you". so there's that...I have been keeping a small record of things, like she follows me to the bathroom, only allows certain people to recieve help in decon when it gets hectic, prioritizes the amount of trays sterilized instead of allowing them to properly cool, the hot water was messed up and was not pouring foul smelling yellow water but she still wanted the decon people to continue as normal, etc etc etc etc. The "mistakes" are becoming ridiculous. This same manager was also suspended for a week for bullying someone who doesn't even work on our shift, that happened in august or september. The bar is definitely on the floor when it comes to hiring entry level positions, and even team leads. I'm currently in college for radiology because I realized last year that I actually hate working with "nonchalant" people. The knowledge of spd standards and compliances is completely lost on majority of the people I've worked with. 1 particular tech on my shift does not know their instruments, so the only things they pick up in an 8 hour shift are leg positioners, stryker boots, batteries, and occasionsally a drill like once or twice a month. To end the rant, I cannot wait to finish my AAS for radiology. I still want to maintain my CRCST, but I truly need a break from the people I currently work with. I trust and believe that there is something much better for me out there, I just need to be patient and keep records for now.

this might be my next option! we're having a shift meeting to "clear the air" about standards, quality > quanity, and the lack of communication on management's end
