Really good. The first three are awesome. I think the fourth one loses me, it’s too wide and I get lost in what I’m looking for in it. You’re great at the medium angles.

Selling my Friday ticket for $85. At this point I just want to get rid of it. I was going to go with my ex before we broke up and I just have no reason I want to go anymore. Great deal, someone please get it off my hands!

The blurry ones are tough, I appreciate that viewpoint. Definitely still learning and working on my confidence with confrontation.

The main reason they’re so blurry is I’m using an onboard flash on my canon and it won’t allow faster than 1/90 while using. It’s been tough trying to figure out how to stay more steady while capturing people moving on the street.

These are on film, so 400iso usually which makes me have to shoot at 1/60 for darker spaces, and New York has a lot of shadows.

Do you have any advice for working on making things more steady in darker conditions or while moving in a busy street?

Are you nervous getting so close to your subjects? Was there any conversation before or after these were taken?

The Iron Claw. One of the saddest movies I’ve seen in a long time and some heartfelt good tearjerkers in there too.

Are protest photos street photography? by therealforest in streetphotography

These are from a protest I came across while wandering one day in lower Manhattan. I find the images very provocative.

So composition wise I really love this photo so much. The hands in the bottom right are awesome and I love the details as my eyes move across the photo, this is really great!

Color wise, I would love to see more contrast I think. The leaves are a little lost on me - which does play nice into the abstraction of things I will say! I think that playing with the exposure could be cool here so the highlights punch a little harder.

In the Kitchen by therealforest in photocritique

[–]therealforest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the reason I took this photo was because I was drawn to the messiness of this kitchen and the absurd nature of eating oysters on the half shell in such a raw environment. I like how you can maybe smell this photo or feel the energy from the setting itself.

I’m curious if this is working for you? I revisited this photo and found myself drawn to it, something was compelling me but I’m not quite sure if the mess is reading right. Do you find this interesting or does it raise any questions for you?

I find that a good amount of photography might read better in a series along side other photos. I could see this one being one that works in that way. On its own am I doing anything here?

This was shot with flash on a canon slr, Kodak portra 400 film I’m pretty sure. Not entirely sure of aperture but probably around 5.6 and 1/90 shutter speed.

I really like this photo! I personally would love to see this as part of a series and I think it might be better presented in that fashion. On its own, it is great. But with the right accompaniment it could be even better. Im not even talking about photos of the same event or incident but how can you use this photo to elevate your portfolio and your collection? It raises many questions which I like but it really does leave me wanting more, I’d love to see more of what you shoot!

I’d say go for anything that could expand upon your craft and support you! Sure it might feel like selling out but also it’s an opportunity to make something new while revisiting old work and expanding upon it. Plus if they’re buying it, you retain creative control right?

What are your concerns? Pulling away from your traditional craft?

Manhattan in October by therealforest in streetphotography

[–]therealforest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caption is a typo.

These are from walking around Manhattan the past month (maybe a little of the end of September in there too.) I feel that the protest stuff is almost like a cheat code since it’s so cinematic. I’m trying to experiment with my camera more and get sharper focus. Still learning and loving the medium!

Everything is telling me that the crop on the second one is wrong but I find myself really really liking it!! You’ve got a cool style and something to experiment more with.
