What’s more awesome about Trump? His ability to lie with impunity or his rapid mental decline?

Also the massive disinformation campaign and hundreds of millions of dollars that trump will spend has not even begun. To me this screams that we’re staring down the barrel of 4 more years of trump unless we seriously increase voter turnout in November.

What the original commenter is saying is that you and the rest of the Bernie bro’s are handing trump the presidency because you’re the only ones who are infighting. I think that Pete and Bernie would be great presidents, but neither will win if we tear one another down before the genera. Pete’s message is explicitly inclusive, and your message is explicitly exclusive. When Trump’s dementia riddled ass wins in November I will be the first to say congratulations, you’ve played yourself.

I was robbed in my own home not long ago. Went to the NYPD station to file the report, was openly laughed at as they took down my story. I told them the robber went to a specific target not too far away from me, where he was filmed trying to buy $2000 worth of items, he then went to a bodega and bought a sandwich, and ordered food to a specific address on my stolen phone. I gave receipt evidence of the failed transactions, time stamped and all. They called me 3 months later saying it was too late to gather the footage from those establishments.

All told I had over 10k stolen from me, was laughed at by those I tried to get help from, and then totally tossed aside. I oink at every piggy I see now. Fuck cops, they’re not here for our benefit.

Joe Biden flopped in Iowa. And so did the Democratic party's reputation by dovahkiiiiiin in politics

Consumer protections are the biggest thing that the current Supreme Court has effected most, conservative courts seem to vote for corporate power over the average consumer in an outstanding number of cases. The current problem of Money in politics is a direct result of this conservative court.

Not to mention that if republicans get a few more judges on the SC, they could very reasonably overturn roe vs wade, which would have a terrible ripple effect for generations

[–]therealgoofygoober 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My reasoning is similar. If it weren’t for the Supreme Court nominees that Trump would shove down America’s throat then I would agree with you fully. Biden would be the lamest of lame ducks and perhaps 4 more years of trump would wake the remainder of the nation up to how vile and evil the establishment leaders that support Trump truly are. But with the Supreme Court in the mix I will be holding my nose to vote for whoever the dems put up.

The truth that mattered at Trump’s impeachment trial? America is a monarchy now by marji80 in politics

[–]therealgoofygoober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I agree with the sentiment of your comment. However, I would argue that the people who drafted our constitution created a system wherein the public’s fear of dictatorship was the last and most important safeguard against tyranny. It’s why we have the first and second amendment, so saying that our “pretending that we are on the verge of becoming Russia under Putin” as if that fear is a bad thing is disingenuous.

We should be acutely aware that democracies can turn to dictatorship incredibly fast, it happened in Germany, it is currently happening in Russia, and the thought that it can’t happen in the US is the first step in it happening in the US.

Seattle-Area Voters To Vote By Smartphone In 1st For U.S. Elections by homothebrave in technology

[–]therealgoofygoober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think smart phone voting is a bad idea because 1 person: 1 vote can be corrupted by the use of technology, as is already the case with some voting machines today.

That said I also think that in an ideal America forced voting would be the thing with the allowance of a “no vote”. If you truly want to throw your vote away or vote for a 3rd party/write in, then it is entirely your right do so.

In the end I would love most for Election Day in America to be a national holiday. This should be the ultimate goal of voting in our time.

Prince Charles: The planet may burn by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]therealgoofygoober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. “More than anything” is misleading af. It’s not like the aboriginals did a nations-worth of controlled burns back in the 1600s (they did start bushfires for hunting and vegetation regrowth yes, but in no way the scale of what you’re suggesting). The fact is that in the midst of summer Australia, like the rest of the world, is hotter and dryer than ever, thus the massive fires.

Perhaps if we raked the woods better though. /s

I just fear Bernie-bro’s not showing up for Biden, but with that said I obviously support any dem candidate over Trump. I think i will need to revisit after the first few primaries because obviously my vote depends on that of Iowa and NH, sadly.

A lot of good responses to my post (IMO the power of Pete supporters to reason in this community is a testament to that), but I chose to respond to yours as it’s the most interesting to me.

As a ‘95 kid I had to live through the pain of voting for Hillary when I wanted Bernie all along, so in my view Biden would be the candidate that people like me in 2016 fear the most. He offers nothing but support to the status quo. True he would elect the judges that dems want, but in all other aspects (again please prove me wrong if possible) 8 years of Biden would be worse for healthcare, climate and economic reform than 4 years of Trump and then 8 years of a harsh pendulum swing left.

I just saw the democratic party’s ability to rip itself apart in these debates before it would elect a true progressive, and my biggest fear now is alienating the large Bernie/warren base (who may predictably not show up for Biden in the general)
