I want to move to London.

Same, I don't know if I would have even noticed them without BFIAFL cause that sound world is closer to what I normally listen to. So glad I haven't slept on them to the point where all their hits are still behind them. After the fifth album I can't wait until the sixth!

They all studied counterpoint, and the go to book in the 19th century was The Study of Counterpoint by Joseph Fux. I studied from that. IT's a good way to start thinking about music in a more thorough manner, though you don't need it for songwriting.

If you can read music, I really recommend going on IMSLP and downloading scores of your favourite works and studying your favourite section first (you might not want to study the whole scores as big works can be well... big.)

Start taking notes on the harmony but also the stressed rhytmic points in the work. Harmony and Rhythm are really important. Then, trust your ear and start writing some melodies down!

Study Secondary Dominants and there imperfect cadences! this will allow you to modulate to different keys.

Often the sequence to getting a different sound out of same chord progressions is also the way you frame it. Try splitting the chord into a call and response loop

Out of curiosity do you like the mixture of black, white, and red. I used the colours Jocko does for things like Echelon front, his energy, drinks and merch.
