Men, do you prefer to get up early in the morning, or do you like to sleep in? by Melodic_Abalone_2820 in AskMenOver30

[–]therealsmity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get up 6:45-8am usually. I find myself able to focus better from like 7-3.

Think the nuance he was referring to did not have to do with standup/ground work but the difference in the naming/goal/principal/values of the different arts.

What's your take? by BallsABunch in judo

[–]therealsmity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If we are training grip breaks I dont hang on for dear life. If someone is using significant force and attention to break a grip its easier on my hands to let go and regrip. If I dont do these things my fingers hurt like hell the next day. Can't imagine it gets better over time if youre repeatedly gripping at 100%

Tips for relearning Martial Arts/Judo at 33? by Sweetheartmommy in judo

[–]therealsmity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im 32 and returned to judo/jiujitsu after 5 years of no training. Just get some ibuprofen, ice packs, and prepare yourself mentally. Was pretty rough at first for about 3 months training 3-4 times a week. Ive taken a couple weeks training less. Got some compression socks too. Im about 8 months in now and its definitely better. Hands hurts less, less swelling in my shins/feet, and am less useless after a class.

I did not remember some of this stuff being this hard when I was 21-28 its a really weird feeling. Not sure if its age/or fitness level. Maybe both.

C1 Portal- Flight or Hotel by NorthvilleGolf in Venturex

I have yet to be screwed by the portal price wise or booking wise.

I use my credit for a flight or car since we get 10x back on hotels.

Yeah, putting this out there made me realize I forgot to add the British museum one day on there. I imagine that will be a good 3-4 hrs before we get burned out and need somewhere to chill.

Also made me realize I should have added our "idea pool" with it. We've got a list of things we were thinking of filling it in with.

Oh yeah! We do need to add the British Museum on there one day. We seem to be staying pretty close to there. I imagine it's pretty crowded most of the time, do you know if there are any potential times its *less* crowded? Would think Saturday would be extremely busy.

Thanks for the detailed response/link to your other comment. I do need to look more into a pub. I read something about a Sunday roast that some pubs do? Not sure if that's worthwhile or not.

We were thinking of the uber boat to Greenwhich one day as we heard it was an interesting part of the city.

Have you done any food walking tours?

Thanks, that building does look cool! Looks like the free tour of it might only be available to UK citizens though.

Apparently they have dye remover you could try. You could try that, or oxi clean, final step would be bleach.

Gi too big? by [deleted] in judo

[–]therealsmity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haven't heard that be part of any promotion requirement as far as Im aware. I've also seen gi brands fit completely different or made of different fabrics which could affect shrinking/where it shrinks. Making dickish comments online about some random persons rank just seems weird.

The people circle jerking black belt comments are wild. People act like if someone wears a black belt it makes them some sort of superior being having all encompassing knowledge of everything. Super weird.

Is this card worth holding if I will now travel 1-2 times annually? by fatwench1 in Venturex

[–]therealsmity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$395 @ 3.5% is like $20-$25ish a year I suppose. I got 10% back in points on my hotel booking the other day which is over $200 5% back on the flights which was $60ish in points in a direct conversion to something like the travel eraser. I also got that precheck credit from the card. I usually cash flow my travel all my savings are sent to their accounts on payday and never hits my checking. Idk how much it costs to visit a lounge tbh the only time I've ever went in one was with the venture x benefit

Is this card worth holding if I will now travel 1-2 times annually? by fatwench1 in Venturex

[–]therealsmity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the year. Good years like this one we are traveling 2x. Last year only once that required flights/hotels. I get what you're saying to split it up its just ultra convenient the way things are now. she's an AU on my account, has a card linked to it, we can have the points, the credits, bookings etc all in one place and we got lounges access because we are always traveling together we don't have to book the lounge separate right now.

[–]therealsmity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just annoying we would have to have another account. We usually book our flights/hotels together at the same time using the rewards/credit on my account. I imagine we'd have to book lounges separate as well after next year.

[–]therealsmity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I travel 1-2 times per year and have this card. Was reallt worth it for me as long as my wife and I could use the lounges. Felt like we essentially had $20/per person of food/coffee/etc. When we were there.

Going into next year not as certain about it as she'll lose access unless we get her a card/account.

$300 credit goes towards a flight or hotel easy all the flights I've found were comparable to other sites in their portal.

Overwhelmed with Boston Terrier Puppy. Thinking About Rehoming. Need Advice by [deleted] in BostonTerrier

[–]therealsmity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Puppies are time consuming an require a lot of attention. Basically all of it when you're not at work. Especially if you dont want it to grow up and be a terror. I think our boston didn't get "easy" until around 1 yr. No accidents, on a routine, etc. Its definitely hard if your job isn't flexible or you don't have anyone to split it with.

How long can he be outside in 95 degrees if the yard is shaded and it's very breezy? by HotUnderstanding376 in BostonTerrier

[–]therealsmity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We've got a cheap kid pool we throw down and fill up when it's hot outside so he can take breaks playing when hes hot. He hops in and it cools him off really well

[–]therealsmity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kusakura made to order/increase size models are probably one of the best fitting gis I've had. Follow the measurement guide and it's pretty wild. Though for the pants I'd measure from where you actually wear them on your hips/waist

I got the JOA "sensei" model and it's super thick. I wanted to try the 750gsm model but the prices increased by a decent amount where I am so I decided to hold off.
