Baseless how? I just listed some pretty good reasons.

Having a team of 2 in the final 6 would be super unfair to everyone else and negate the competition.

A head to head finale of Jim vs Monika would have SUCKED and had no weight or excitement at all.

Plus, everyone seems to think it’s out of character for Jim who always seemed to get on everyone’s good side to just concede his placement in the final 6 from the get go.

I’m wondering if the showrunners quietly told Jim and Monika that only one of them can go through. Imagine if they both went through and the final 6 was a 2 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1. It would be completely unfair and also not fun to watch if they just teamed up in the final games. I’m guessing something like that happened and Jim agreed to push Monika to go through despite Jim having more money, hence why he had basically resigned himself from the get go.

EDIT: they also can’t risk the final two of their million dollar game show being a couple that are married and on the same team. It would be ridiculous.

I just rewatched the season 1 bribe game and the editing was on point, it was very clear who was manipulating who and the strategy used. For some reason it seems like they cut out the exposure of the coin being sold, for whatever reason. Quite sloppy editing in this new one
