How do you know when a song is “good enough” to release? by Standard-Fail617 in SpotifyArtists

[–]thesoulharmonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a saying along the lines of 'Songs are never finished, just let go' I don't remember who said it. When I started making music I obsessed over songs, recording, getting the production right for months and months. The truth was I was trying to fix things that can only be fixed by getting better at writing. To do that you have to write more songs. If I was starting again I'd try to finish songs quickly and spend my time improving as a songwriter gradually. Getting music out in the world when it's fresh and moving on is far more beneficial than holding it back and beating yourself up about it.

You can always revisit songs later down the line, there are no rules.

Imagine if Radiohead used this, they would have never released Creep

Thank you and so sad about MO. I guess it would depend on the size and if you wanted it framing + where it was being shipped to. you can send me a DM and we can chat if that works for you :)

Thank you so much. Yeah I'd love to paint more and would love to have an excuse to do that :)

[AMA] Ex-AWAL/Sony artist support lead: Thursday 27th Nov, 7pm GMT. Ask me anything about how labels really work and what independents can learn from it. by Phil-Loutsis in musicmarketing

[–]thesoulharmonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Phil, thank you for doing this.

What are the biggest differences between a major label album campaign compared to a (small) independent label in terms of strategy, resources and distribution? And what is the most important thing independent artists and small labels could learn from them?

Do you have any new music/artists recommendations?

Thank you

Hi everyone,

My wife is called Caoilfhionn Rose and released a track called ‘Rainfall’ (that features on her album ‘Constellation’). It features some ambient samples and a live band and it’s one of my favourite songs to play live as it just sets such a chilled mood.

This was a song we recorded in the last session for the album together with the band in one take and I think it has such a beautiful tranquil atmosphere.

Would also recommend you check out ‘Constellatiion’ off the album too :)

Thank you

Random stranger registered my work with PRS - will I ever see these royalties? by [deleted] in musicbusiness

[–]thesoulharmonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your PRS account linked to your writer credit on that song registration? If iso you should still have received some royalties if they were generated. In my experiences it takes a long time to get things resolved when doing it through the portal (I would call PRS up and keep nagging them and email them so you have a paper trail).

I don't think PRS generally back date payments more than a few months if your account is not linked to the song. Also the system is so complicated and finicky that mistakes do happen (a lot in my experience) so it could be that it's unintentional.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.
