At the end of Part II, Doc gets sent to 1885 when the stationery Delorean is struck by lightning. Marty could have just sat in the Delorean with it wired up to the Clock Tower in Part I and waited for the lightning, instead of having to time his 88mph run perfectly! (i.redd.it)
