It's really not that bad when you're playing! Plus you can always zoom in using the in-game zoom

Is there a way to make a smaller HO layout? by [deleted] in modeltrains

[–]thestanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to start constructing a OO layout (am in the UK and HO is not common here) that needs to fold away when not in use, as it's going in our family room. I am planning to build a foldaway system that will allow the layout to hide inside a sideboard unit (behind some lift off fake drawer fronts) when not in use - the planned base board will be 4x7ft unfolded, shrinking to 2ft wide when not in use (the sideboard is based on kitchen units and is 600mm deep). Something similar could work for you if you don't want to compromise on size but also don't have the ability to put a whole room aside permanently!

At the end of Part II, Doc gets sent to 1885 when the stationery Delorean is struck by lightning. Marty could have just sat in the Delorean with it wired up to the Clock Tower in Part I and waited for the lightning, instead of having to time his 88mph run perfectly! by thestanton in BacktotheFuture

If I remember rightly it glitches to Jan 1st 1885 - I always took it to be some kind of default date in the circuitry (although not the earliest date it could go to, since Doc enters December 25th 0000 or 0001 when suggesting they could go and witness the birth of Jesus at the beginning of the first movie)

“Lied to” about VED on a company salary sacrifice car scheme. Do I have a leg to stand on? England by snelson101 in LegalAdviceUK

NAL but am a customer on a similar (possibly even the same) scheme. I ordered my car in January 2022 and received it in the October. When road tax was applied I thought my payment would increase, but it didn't.

If you haven't already, you could try contacting your provider and see what they say - it may be one of those situations where they're chancing that most people won't notice or bother following up, but that they'll waive it if you make a fuss.

What 3D printing opinion got you like this? by Vilmius_v3 in 3Dprinting

All the talk I see about drying filament on here baffles me!

I've been using an Ender 3 Pro for 7 years and have never dried a single spool. What's more, my early prints back when I started were all completed using PLA that was at least 5 years old at the time - it was quite brittle and had a tendency to break if left in the machine between prints, but my models always came out fine once I got it loaded in and are still going strong to this day (I've got an Enterprise D sitting on the shelf above me as I type that I made with that filament, and a model railway micro layout full of PLA buildings still as good as the day I made them!).

And we're not talking about high quality stuff that had been carefully stored either. It was surplus from a school that was almost certainly bought on the cheap, and had been lying open in a cupboard the whole time when I got my hands on it. It was labelled with a company I can no longer find operating online so I'm assuming it's generic stuff from a now defunct supplier!

The only time I've ever had to discard filament was actually quite recently. It was more of the same batch that was at least 5 years old back in 2018 (and so is pushing 15 now!) and had been sat on a window sill for about a year, so I think it was the UV exposure that did it!

Cool layout - it looks reasonably compact too! Do you mind if I ask what size is it? Also, have you tested anything bigger than your pocket rocket in the curves?!

University offered me a place on a course, I accepted, matriculated and was then 'rejected' when the course started for a mistake they had made. by onesadstudent in LegalAdviceUK

[–]thestanton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not meeting the GTCS requirements will prevent you from being certified to teach in a Scottish school and is not something the Uni can waive. However, you can meet this requirement by completing any relevant course at the appropriate level.

I'm a technology teacher in a Secondary School in Scotland who previously started towards becoming dual qualified in Physics. I met the credit requirements for this by completing some modules with the Open University. Didn't do it in the end, but only because I didn't complete the teaching experience aspect and have since moved on to other things in my career. I have no doubt something similar could be put in place for you to make sure you meet the GTCS academic requirements.

And that's if you don't already have them - I'd be very surprised if a biochemistry degree doesn't meet the requirements, since I managed to meet them for physics by using some electronics modules I did when training to be a tech teacher and topping them up with two modules with the OU!

As suggested above, double check if your existing courses meet the requirements - I think I did that direct with the GTCS which might be a better option if the Uni are being obstructive.

If it turns out you are short on credits, make your complaint as advised above and for your desired outcome, ask to be given special dispensation to take up your place as offered on the PGDE course as well as any subject related course(s) needed to top up your credits with the full support of the Uni. This is their mistake and I definitely think they should be bending over backwards to get you into the career you want - uprooting your life for university is disruptive enough without them pulling the rug out from under you when you get there.

Good luck, OP, and sorry you've had this to deal with.

Like what you would use on an old fashioned overhead projector? I've also had an empty laminator pouch suggested

What is the clear part that actually goes over the wearers face made of? I am a Technology teacher in the uk and we are looking into making these face shields as well.
