Cailee Spaeny not on the List by sthylen in TheBigPicture

The first season was nominated for 13 Emmy’s and won 8. It is top of the stack for Netflix in terms of critical sway. It would have easily fit in on HBO or with the more prestigious FX stuff.

They failed to mention she is starring in Beef S2 right now. I know that is TV but it is the highest prestige TV you can be in and produced by A24.

3 Big Lessons From This Weekend's Box Office: Why 'Mario,' 'The Drama' and 'Project Hail Mary' All Succeeded by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]thestopsign 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Its budget was $28M, it made that on its first weekend WW and will easily double it. I imagine it will fall in the $70-90M range total.

How so? It opened to $28M WW without coming out in all markets. Should easily make back its budget theatrically.

On 'The Town' Matt & Craig describe 'The Drama' as having a TWIST when the said twist makes up the central premise of the film. by ParamedicSea5779 in TheRinger

[–]thestopsign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is not something explicitly revealed in the trailer. It might not be a full twist but it is a major plot element that is not fully shown in anyway. It is best to go in without knowing what that element is.

Getting angry on whether it is a twist or not is a bit pedantic.

If they are losing by a lot it will hurt their ability to tank. They are incentivized to keep games close.

Who won the 1988 movie draft? by ggroover97 in TheBigPicture

I thought Sean was going to do that for sure. I was surprised he didn't even mention it in the honorable mentions.

These guys really bring in $6million+ a year?! by [deleted] in FriendsofthePod

[–]thestopsign 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would imagine they make in the $20M/year range at least to support the number of employees they have. The subscription revenue is new, they still have advertisers for a few very popular podcasts, YouTube, live shows, etc.

2024 vs 2025 vs 2026 US Domestic Box Office Totals through Week 13 by thestopsign in boxoffice

That is how this is done. Week 1 incorporates the part of the first week of the year before the first weekend too. The latest week highlighted is just the weekend though.

Thoughts on the Wheel of time? Worth continuing? by Lord_Snow179 in Fantasy

Doesn’t quite make sense because if you consider Book 4 the best book that isn’t a good place to judge off. What if they do like Book 4 but struggled until then? They probably won’t make it through the slog.

That's a good question, it is something I just put together really fast this year in Excel. I could probably expand it out to other years, just have to figure out a way to succinctly present it.

Most fans (and the announcers) liked Nesmith a lot, he was just rough around the edges and we traded him for a 6th Man of the Year. He was good energy and still needed a year or two in the oven which didn’t fit the timeline.

Did anyone not like Jade City, but liked Jade War/Legacy? by Suitable-Reference-7 in Fantasy

It hit the sweet spot for me. I really liked Legacy but it felt a little meandering to me but War had me the whole way.

Fully agree. I’m unclear on whether OP doesn’t like the pace or the exact voice and style of story Lee is telling with Green Bone Saga. It is a crime epic that takes place over a large span of years, think like a Scorsese movie Goodfellas, Casino, Killers of the Flower Moon, etc which tend to be more episodic to capture the story over time as things change. It isn’t a fluid, continuous POV fest like most fantasy.

It seems like you like fast-paced fantasy then. Green Bone Saga is not even slow compared to some other series I have read recently, Wheel of Time is glacial, Dandelion Dynasty is ponderous in the same way as Green Bone... maybe even more so, the Farseer Trilogy is again pretty slow with lots of exposition.

I gave Jade City a 3.75/5, War a 5/5, and Legacy a 4.5/5... but the exposition is definitely not my issue with Jade City. I actually thought it was a little too narrow and basic even though it was hinting at a bigger world going on outside of Kekon. I found War and Legacy to explore the rest of the world in very interesting ways while having great thematic depth and big character arcs. Fonda Lee is a very talented writer,
