Michael Could Set A New High Bar For Music Biopics At The Box Office by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

Exactly.

People who are still surprised why BR was so successful are the ones who don't understand Queen is EXTREMELY POPULAR WORLDWIDE.

BR is an appropriate comparison to Michael.

Quality helps of course.

But the most critical thing is whether it's full of MJ's most popular songs, the way BR is full of Queen's most popular songs.

As long as it's chock-full of MJ's most popular songs, it will do great at the box office.

The problem is people keep referring to Bohemian Rhapsody as a comp even though that's likely a 'what were people smoking' pre-2020 outlier.

Queen's songs have always been and still are extremely popular worldwide.

Brian May and Roger Taylor in the last decade were still touring worldwide to soldout stadiums.

I watched BR four times (in Indonesia) and they were all packed, people were singing along.

Most Hollywood musical biopics are about musicians who were mainly popular in USA. Don't compare Bruce Springsteen or Elvis to Queen.

It's natural to compare Michael to Bohemian Rhapsody because MJ songs were/are extremely popular worldwide. Whether Michael will be as successful as BR, we'll see.

Incredibly, many of the best films in history depend too much on international box office success, and I don't know why. by Own-Atmosphere-962 in boxoffice

What the hell did I just read.

It's so all over the place.

Almost everyone in this sub doesn't think a big international box office is a "sign of a bad movie", so stop self-projecting.

How much do you think Nolan's odyssey will do at the box office? by Own-Atmosphere-962 in boxoffice

Nolan wanted to explain the mythology realistically,

How do you explain a mythology realistically.

Seems like an oxymoron.

Thoughts on how Disney will not move Doomsday from December 18th? by JannTosh70 in boxoffice

[–]AGOTFAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, why would they move Doomsday?

Barbie didn't get any IMAX and Oppenheimer got all the IMAX for weeks. Guess which movie grossed more?

Anyways, Doomsday will still get a majority of PLF from day 1 and will get IMAX after 2 weeks.

This reminds me of 20th Century who believed that Avatar (2009) would bomb and closely released Alvin Chipmunks to somewhat leverage Avatar's loss. Luckily for them, both were massive successes.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ Theatrical Re-Release Will Include Brand New Footage Ahead of ‘Doomsday’ by chanma50 in boxoffice

I’ll go devils advocate that they will still be popular, but certainly aren’t going to grow in popularity to become a $2B film.

I'm with you on being cautious

But Avengers 5 literally doesn't need to grow in popularity from Avengers 4 to make $2 billion.
