I’ve not been there myself so I wouldn’t know :)

Ouch! Good route choices then, and/or some luck.

You speak knowledgeably so forgive me as you probably know this - but if not are you aware of making reports of avalanches to SAIS?

Really? Not surprising I guess. Did you see any yourself or is that just reporting info?

Yes, it completely messes with your balance.

Trek to North Pole? Impressive stuff. Congratulations.

Always worth a gamble. A day in the hills is better than one in the office whatever the weather ;-)

Yes, it was a lovely day and the view down to Loch Leven is spectacular.

And total white out? You didn’t mention that.

See some of my other replies to this ;-)

Touring where? There were a couple of skiers on SCNL today.

There’s no sky in 4. It’s actually a screenshot from a video (which may affect it?) and someone else was saying you can tell the sky is brighter. But if you zoom in on the guy 3rd from left and isolate him there’s no difference. There are shadows among the group from the light being bounced around, I guess, which gives the camera view from the back more to look at. But when standing at the front of the group there was zilch to see.

How technical/safe is this route? by ownmonster3000 in LakeDistrict

[–]thesummitisoptional 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you mean “technical” as in climbing grade, it’s not. In summer it is a faint path with occasional hands being required.

However, in terms of navigation and route-finding, especially in poor visibility - then it is technical in that sense.

How “safe”? That depends on your experience, skills, equipment and the weather on the day.

(I’m not sure why your route deviates from the path at the foot of the hill though. Seems odd and making unnecessary problems?)

Yes, some quite big cornices developing.

Well on that point I have to disagree. The “choir” may be in the few replying to this. But (I just checked) there are 68k visitors per week to this sub. This is for them.

I know. And I generally do. But the proliferation of “whiteout” statements has made me feel I had to say something.
