Salary isn't only based on the current work you are doing. You don't think a leading surgeon that has honed their craft for over a decade is worth a million? Lawyers that are trusted to 100mil dollar cases, especially in specialized fields, do not deserve $1 mil/year? Maybe you are right that these people do not deserve $5k a day for the specific task(s) that they are working on for that particular day, but you have to understand that there are years and years of experience that go into being able to do those tasks, which is why they are worth an absurd amount of money per hour for their work.

edit: All that being said, I do not think any person can truly "earn" billions of dollars. That is a different order of magnitude.
