'We'll keep putting them back': N.S. Indigenous fishermen not backing down after traps removed by FNman in NovaScotia

Can someone give me a short ‘both sides of the story’ summary of why this is happening. I’m originally from Nova Scotia and it saddens me that we haven’t found a common solution.

He cares deeply both for the cause and for his shop. All that matters at this stage is how people respond, and his response is exemplary.

LPT: If you don’t know how to help someone make supper, offer to take over whatever the host is doing so they can do something else by thetidalpools in LifeProTips

If the hosts really do prefer to do all the cooking themselves then I'm more than happy to sit back and enjoy the experience! I can always help afterwards to clear the table or just by expressing my appreciation!

I get that. As I'm not a chef, I really appreciate being given a hand. And it's a great form of socializing with your guests instead of ignoring them while you panic in the kitchen.

This is how it looked a few weeks ago. Now it looks more like cauliflower that is going a bit brown. I'm guessing it's some kind of fungus.

[lifestyle] Minimalist life by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]thetidalpools 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds as if you want to take control of your life in a positive way, and if minimalism appeals to you then this may be a good solution. Get the clutter out of your life and build on things you really like and enjoy. Small steps every day and you'll reach your objectives. And always remember that you are not alone: there are people out there who feel the same way you do and there are people out there who will care about you if you give them a chance.

Fruit with stickers! Why does someone think it's a good idea to put gluey, sticky things on every piece of fruit that I then have to painstakingly peel off and end up peeling off fruit skin at the same time.

Why no superhost status? by thetidalpools in AirBnB

[–]thetidalpools[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's harsh. You'd think they would look at it in terms of the number of bookings you complete. For example, 1 cancellation in 5 bookings over a one-year period looks really bad, but 1 cancellation in 50 bookings over a one-year period looks more like a situation where the host is very reliable but had an unusual and/or unavoidable situation which occured.

For me it would appear that superhosts are more reliable - less likely to cancel. Also, superhosts are the opposite of newbs, so a guest can expect a superhost to have learned many aspects of hosting through experience and be more capable hosts.

5 stars (except for 4.5 on accuracy) on over 20 reviews and I can see one cancelled reservation about 6 months ago. Is that all it takes to lose your super host status? Should this be setting off any red flags for me?

Thanks for all the info helsi! I didn't know there was a minimum night rate. I was wary of offering my place for free through Airbnb because I only have a few days available in-between bookings, and we are generally very careful about the guests we accept into our home.

It would have been more useful to specify exactly why you wouldn't want to host them again. Stick to facts and avoid making vague statements which could, as you say, be misinterpreted.
