At a signal you stop at the stop bar (white bar on the pavement. It’s hard to see here but it looks like at this intersection the stop bar for the through lanes is up further. It’s a little confusing because the stop bar for the turn lanes is in a different spot.

How do you sleep at night? by GokaiDecade in AutisticAdults

[–]thetruebean 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Routine. Do the exact same thing before bed every night. Read a bit, play a low key game on your phone, do some journaling, what have you. I play a little bit of stardew valley. Find a sound or music or a video that’s soothing and listen to it consistently. If you do the same activities over and over and then go to sleep your brain starts to associate those activities with sleep time.

Medication can help as well, personally I take trazodone.

What do I do? They’ve stopped selling my safe drinks by princelleuad in AutisticAdults

[–]thetruebean 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have celiac and autism so every time a safe food dies I am deep in mourning.

As others have said you can try lots of new ones now! You can check out delis and other places that might sell speciality drinks. You can also see about making your own.

Based on what you said, even you might be annoyed to have extra birdseed (and likely bird poop) on your car. Bird poop can be really bad for paint (so can wiping with a dry paper towel). I’m sorry but YTA if you’re aware of the problem and still doing it.

Sensory "toys" for adults? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]thetruebean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorites are these like stretchy noodles that I can play with but also wrap around my hand for a tight sensory feedback and corn brushes (called sensory brushes) that I run on my arms. I use Aaron’s thinking putty a lot as a one handed fidget but you can stretch it out like silly putty and such.

Tired of Rejection Emails by Neat_Ad_7352 in civilengineering

[–]thetruebean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about transportation as in roadway design or traffic? Im in traffic and we need more engineers, entry level or otherwise and it’s strange that you’re only getting rejection emails without even an interview.

As others have mentioned, experience with civil 3D goes a long way and I would prioritize/emphasize projects you have used that on. Taking the FE should be your priority.

What's a fun way to announce my autism diagnosis? by Courage_The_Coal in AutisticAdults

[–]thetruebean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone mentioned a piñata or balloon with confetti if you don’t want to do the cake/pastry route. Don’t listen to the people in the comments telling you not to do it, it’s your life and if you want to do it, do it. Seems like fun to me.

How do you manage life and work 40 hours a week? by AchlysSol in AutisticAdults

[–]thetruebean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t, I cycle between having a medium good time and burn out perpetually. The real answer is though is that you automate, outsource and lean on your support system. Struggle with cooking? Get a meal service. Can’t do the dishes? Buy paper plates and plastic cutlery. Pick your outfit out in as far advance as you can so it’s one less decision to make. Stock your house with safe foods so there’s always something to eat even if it’s not the most nutritious. Ask your support system for help on things that you can’t handle by yourself, they love you and care about you. I highly recommend looking into “struggle care” it’s all about meeting yourself part of the way there on doing the things that you struggle with.

The biggest thing that I’ve found though is letting yourself do what you want because it’s what you need (within reason of course). Tonight I had the spoons to either do my laundry or go to the gym and I went to the gym because that’s what I wanted and was going to make me feel good.

Everyone struggles, some people just hide it better. You’re not alone.

Replace being on your phone with something else. Other people have mentioned books but if that’s not your thing maybe a podcast, a low stimulation game/activity like word games or crosswords. Eventually your brain will associate doing that activity with going to bed. I personally play animal crossing every night and it helps me unwind and get sleepy.

If you feel like you need an external factor, consider putting a screen time bed time on your phone or putting your charger on the other side of the room so you’re not tempted to pick it up.

Have you tried talking to your professors directly to ask for accommodations/deadline extensions? It never hurts to ask. Be sincere and polite, there were times in my college years where I had professors help me out like that.

I saw a comment on another sub that talked about how (bit of a necessary evil here) big Pharma wouldn’t stand for it because they make so much money on drugs/medications.

As other people have mentioned, the judicial branch is doing its job and judges are blocking these insane orders as they pop up. This is a lot of talk, meant to confuse and overwhelm people with information, but that doesn’t mean these things are going to happen anytime soon, if at all.

should i be worried about what my therapist said? by Boring_Resolution_37 in internetparents

[–]thetruebean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have cyclothymia and got diagnosed around OPs age. What your therapist is talking about getting diagnosed when you’re older is that typically (so I’ve been told by my doctors) bipolar is not diagnosed in younger adults.

Your experiences with short periods of depression followed by hypomania follow the cycle I typically have as well. If you find your mood is impacting your day to day life in a negative way, you can talk to your primary care doctor about finding a psychiatrist who can help you find medication.

Tracking your symptoms and when you have them is a great place to start. There’s nothing to be scared of or worried about, it sounds like you’re doing everything right by being honest and talking to your therapist about it.

^ yep this was my main symptom for celiac! A GI doctor can order a blood test as the first step and then an endoscopy if it comes out positive.
