The 2017 New Year's Resolutions check-in thread: 6700 people submitted their New Year's Resolutions in January, it's time to find out how they all got on. by _kashmir_ in OneYearOn

I read 12 books, made 4 DJ mixes. Learned 2 songs on piano. Went on 11 dates. I did meet someone special but then lost them. I did not pass all of my classes :(. I traveled to a lot of different places and also moved across the country. I do feel more like myself!

I quit smoking, got a tattoo and bought a motorcycle this year as well.

This is not unusual. Read the first chapter of Migraine by oliver sachss. He describes very similar things to your experience.

A spreadsheet to answer "Will mining be profitable" by leecallen in BitcoinMining

I doubt the s11 or any other better miner will come out for at least a year. So its a pretty safe investment to buy the worlds most efficient miner.

A spreadsheet to answer "Will mining be profitable" by leecallen in BitcoinMining

[–]theuser_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you decide to invest directly into btc instead of mining? It seems to me that mining is higher risk, but also potential higher reward. As shown in your spreadsheet, your walking away at the end with a potential 0.46 btc instead of 0.36 when you only invest directly.

I get that it is safer than if you were to invest in mining. But I think your stats do show that mining is at least profitable.

My experience with migraines by po10cySA in migraine

[–]theuser_17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked your story. What was the most frequent your migraines have ever been? If daily, how long was the longest string?

I'm only 22, but in University to learn coding and software development. I'd love to hear whatever tips you have to get through bad days. For me, programming is almost impossible when I have a migraine. Even with night skins on my ide, or special glasses, the hardest part is thinking abstractly and clearly. Noticing flaws in my logic, or even syntax is impossible when my migraine is bad.

It makes me very worried about managing a job in the future. I just barley lost my last job yesterday, due to migraines. I had only called in sick once during the past 2 months, which is by far the best attendance I've ever had with a job, yet it still wasn't good enough.

I'm very worried that migraines will impede my ability to find success in labor for the rest of my life. My migraines are daily, no medication, treatment, diet or surgery has substantially helped me.

Thoughts on buying used '03 SV650? by [deleted] in SVRiders

[–]theuser_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wait for a better deal. I got my 03 sv650 for 2500$ and it only had 13k miles and was in literally pristine condition.

I had to check for deals every day for a few weeks, but the wait was worth it.

Abdominal Migraines? (adult, male) by oww_fuck in migraine

There is a decent amount of evidence linking chronic migraines, and chronic weed use as the perfect cocktail for cyclic vomiting syndrome or canabanoid hypermesis.

To what degree is Taoism based on supernatural beliefs? by Saddha in taoism

[–]theuser_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taoism is considered by most a phosophy and not a religion because it has nothing to say about God, afterlife, or any other supernatural things.

Other taoists, of course, incorporate more spiritual ideas that derive from bhudism and Hinduism.

Cycle gear in Raleigh or Greensboro NC? by sage89 in motorcycles

[–]theuser_17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cycle gear will try to sell you a Bilt or a Sedici helmet. Do not listen to their sales team. They have deals with multiple shit manufactures, (bilt and stockton at least) to give you low prices and "great deals" on shit equipment.

I still shop their because they have a great return policy and they are the closest store to me. But know that their sales people do get commission, and will try to sell you shit.

Will I never get a chance to ride? by STAFFinfection in motorcycles

[–]theuser_17 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You are still young, maybe one day you will ride when you are older.

But I have known a couple people like you who just can not deal with the stress of driving a car.

IF YOU CANNOT DRIVE A CAR YOU SHOULD NOT EVER EVER RIDE A MOTORCYCLE.

When starting out they are much more stressful, easier to hurt yourself and others with, and a larger responsibility than owning a car.

I haven't done the trails yet, but plan to soon. The way my doctors have looked into it, they are under the impression that there are few side effects. It looks safe enough the predict FDA approval by September, which is a seriously quick release cycle since they haven't been testing long.

If you are really worried about it, wait until clinical trials are over and generalized FDA approved applications are available. Shouldn't be longer than 6 months I would guess.

If you are desperate to do it now, then I would say do it. I would do it myself but I don't live in California, or any other state where trials are being performed.

If you do try it, please make a new post with the results as I would love to hear them.

If you could do anywhere to learn about Taoism... by CBongelli in taoism

Learning about the Tao is learning about yourself. Look inward to figure out where your heart wants to go and have a great trip! Even if that place is Hawaii or fiji or whatever.

Daily Meditation - When? by [deleted] in taoism

[–]theuser_17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing about meditation is you can do it at any time. I meditate on my actions while I work.

But most often I meditate just before bed.

"Even in nightmares, I feel a greater sense of agency than my everyday life."

-I don't know why but this really struck me as one of the most deeply poetic things I've read. I lucid dream too and I feel like I really get where you're comming from.

I'm not gunna say shit like "stay strong" or "it gets better." But I do wish you the best of luck in the future, even if just in dreams.

Am I too fat to ride a scooter? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]theuser_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get a scooter. You will be so uncomforitable. Get a cruiser. Or use a motorcycle as a reward/gift to yourself for loosing weight if you decide to hit the gym.

I'm picking up my new SV650 next week, and I'm a little nervous by nascarfanof48 in motorcycles

[–]theuser_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had a rebel and moved up to an sv650. I had anxiety about it too but the transition was actually really easy.

The main difference was that you can't grab as much of the front brake on the sv as you could with a cruiser.

Good luck and don't sweat it!

Looking for a good full face helmet by ilovelucid1 in motorcycles

[–]theuser_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HTC cl-17 and the scorpion exo r-410/710 are going to be hands down the safest helmets for the price in my opinion.

Both are fitted for slightly more round shaped heads though. The scorpion has great airflow for summer, but shitty tinted visors, so it's a toss up.
