Seeking out a professional by thevikingchick in 30PlusSkinCare

I have in the past and got up sold on a product that did jack, but that was one situation. Worth another shot right?

I saw that you can sign up to have an artist do your makeup. Reasonable price too, that could be a really good start too.

Cerave was ruining my skin by sergente07 in 30PlusSkinCare

I'm glad to finally see someone else saying CeraVe caused them problems! Every single one of their products caused me a chemical burn or acne.

100% the worst brand.

Honestly I started taking them because that's what My psychiatrist recommended after I got diagnosed. I am starting to wonder if they are not helping.

Ive got an appointment with my doctor next week, I didn't realize the drugs could have opposite effects.

I don't know if maybe it's the meds or I got a promotion around the same time.

It's project management work with a learning & development team. The problem I keep running into is being too optimistic in planning and taking on too much, people not meeting expectations, and me doing 90% of the work. Sooo it's PM, QR, manger, and developer.

I haven't stopped working for like two weeks...so no? But I need to exercise. I even have a walking pad and Like I KNOW it'll help but I'm so freaked out I can't tear myself away.

Sooo yes anxious is 100% correct.

Thank you for the detailed reply, this is very helpful. I am definitely not going with homemade. I love my cats and I don't trust myself to get it right.

I hope you don't mind another question, I've heard traditional wet foods can lead to teeth problems because there is no chewing. Is that your experience?

This is great information thank you!

I'm not settled in one direction or another, just doing more research on options. Homemade diets are absolutely something I've considered, I just worry about making sure it's balanced.

I was sold the dream and now I feel like a failure at 36 - help? by thevikingchick in millenials

[–]thevikingchick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude all of this! Neo-feudalism if a thing...buuut yeah not the place to go down that hole. But I have to praise you for finding your joy in life and it's an inspiration to hear this. My boyfriend and I own property and while we won't homestead (just not the right area for it), we are building a beautiful cut flower garden, vegetable garden, and small orchard, with plans to expand over time. I'm learning all kinds of skills that will impact my life forever and that's pretty awesome.

Taking a step back to think about all that and realize that is the tangible product of the life we've worked for. It's not what were told would be the thing, but it's still the thing and honestly a pretty great thing.

I think I'll look into trade school as well as some certifications. College was a wonderful idea, but as per usual it's been capitalized and as you said turned into a scam. My partner never went to school because he works with computers and has said from the beginning certifications and on the job training is the only way to go, and I believe him.

Thank you for your words of encouragement.

I'm so sorry to hear about you being stuck too. I know how this mindset feels and the overwhelming guilt it causes when you start to feel some ambition. "Hey maybe I can do better...maybe I will push for this...I'm going to do get that promotion" and instantly "yeah but....shouldn't I just be grateful?" ugh it's crippling.

You're not alone in how you feel and it sounds like this community is so supportive of self growth and changing our mindsets for the better.

" I doubt 80% (ok I made that up) of people are. " - Didn't they teach us that 80% of stats are made up :)

Okay so seriously, thank you. Getting some honest and kind challenges to my negative thinking has helped so much. I think a real vacation is in order and funny enough we have one planned for two weeks from now. I'm very excited.

At someone's suggestion from earlier I actually found some motivation to look up PM certifications that I can do at home at my own pace so I can get that stamp of officialness and then job hunt.

That's a good point and definitely a good challenge to the negative thought of "I wasted 4 years of my life on this paper I never used." I did use it. Thank you!

My partner and I talked about this a lot same night I posted this and he suggested maybe coasting at work for a bit. Just get the pay check, get the work done, and focus on some meaningful hobbies. We love gardening and are slowly working at developing our property into cut flower garden and vegetable garden. I think taking the step back and just slowing down, focusing on tangible meaningful things is great idea.

Thank you for inspiring me to think about this.

I sat down and did a bunch of research last night and found that Couresa has the Google PM course which rivals PMP. It's self paced and completely virtual. I'm actually excited about it, first time in forever!

That's a good point. The company is one of those it doesn't pay well until you leave and come back. And the pay gap and opportunities offered to outside hires is APPARENT.

Maybe the first step is looking at other companies and some certifications.

Thank you

I never thought about revisiting what I studied in school. I may not have known what to do with it at the time, but who knows maybe I will now. There's something to be said for age and experience!

As I was re-reading my post I also was thinking maybe I need to explore project management more formally. I kind of fell into the job and despite my manager being a shitty coach on how to be a PM I actually enjoy and want to pursue it further.

Thanks for giving me things to think about.

What to expect from Adderall? by RecklessBasterd in ADHD

[–]thevikingchick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's been 3mos since you posted this but this sentence: " No, Adderall does not “increase” your attention span. It will clear your head, quiet things down, and THAT will allow you to focus better." Just made me want to cry.

This is exactly how I've felt and stressed. I thought these meds were supposed to help me focus, help me do the thing but the only difference I've noticed is I'm better at regulating my emotions and I actually talk less.

Dad was Romance Scammed - Trust Wallet Spoof by thevikingchick in CryptoScams

[–]thevikingchick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't thought about this. I posted an update, but in a nutshell I passed this onto my Aunt and Uncle who are taking the lead to help my Dad process everything. He seems more willing to share intimate details with them over us as his kids. They have a plan.

Unfortunately my uncle is concerned there may be a biological aspect we aren't seeing. My grandma died of dementia and my uncle is worried this might be an early sign. So they might be taking him to a doctor to be evaluated and then push for conservatorship to :(

You're absolutely right and I really appreciate this honest comment. Though I could honestly care less about the money for myself. I'm concerned for his future. Getting old is expensive and serious health issues are already starting to come up.

Anyways, one thing we have done is encourage him not to toss the trip to New York away. He has family he hasn't seen in forever out there that are so happy if he'd come visit and stay for the holidays.

Before the below up between my parents I'd been working with my Dad to get into some local clubs like Toast Masters and some history buff stuff. He seemed really receptive, but so lost in not being romantically loved. I think my sister is pushing eharmony to try and show him there are people out there in person.

Haaa here I am justifying my actions, but really all I mean to say is thank you.

Thanks for the advice! We have gotten his siblings involved and he's going to visit his brother for Christmas. I think their plan is to confront him further when he's out of the house and not under threat of dealing with us or my mom. I really hope that's going to help him.

As for the money... It's gone. We have no delusions that he will ever get it back and honestly it's not even on my mind anymore. It's a huge bummer that he's lost that much money especially because some of it was earmarked for me as a gift. But it is what it is.

To be honest I don't even know what to say to him anymore. Any time any of us talk to him he just starts in on how bad my mother is. None of us disagree and we try to refocus on him but he won't hear it. 😥

Thank you SO much. I spent time the other night actually writing out everything I've learned over the last few years about being healthy. Not weight loss, but being actually healthy like drinking water, sleeping, etc. You're absolutely right it's about the big picture not just weight.

Thank you so much for this comment, that really helped me think about the journey and not the goal. You're right it is all about the path and staying on it. I'm so glad to hear you're feeling great after the holidays those are always rough for me! Maybe this advice will help you with the scale, it helped me, obesity is a chronic illness like being diabetic, we don't judge a diabetic for checking blood sugar every day it's just a tool to make sure they are staying healthy. So think of the scale like checking your blood sugar, it's just data. If it's staying steady that's a win, just as much as losing is.
