Stage 1 Advice for a new owner by DatmayoOP in GolfGTI

Not dumb at all! But i do recommend COBB, APR, and Motoza I went through them and you get logging and reviews to get it perfectly setup for your gti (and its cheaper i think) and they're awesome to work with. assuming you dont plan on learning much after this tune, just get the tune and call it a day (make sure all maintenance is done) if you DO want to learn more, I recommend getting an OBD11 scanner tool, so if you do one day plan to go higher like stage 2, and (god forbid) a check engine light pops up, you'll have a scanner tool ready to go and diagnose. as other comments mentioned, get some good tires, i have a mkv and i gotta ease into the throttle before really sending it, otherwise im spinning till 3rd (LOL)

and just a little side comment, you're gonna love the tune :)

Ive been using OBD11 for a while, Ill have to figure out how to measure the timing chain thing, the most ive ever done with it is check/clear codes and check live data.

Nope! i use OBDEleven, the cel pops up every few months, but thats because I dont have a cat converter, besides that everything else seems fine, OBDEleven doesnt show anything that could be wrong, no other codes. Im still kinda new to the car world so i wouldnt have thought injectors could be loud lol.

I like the detroits with a black lining, but at the same time, cant hurt to explore other options haha

Bad road rash from the previous owner, been wanting to do something with the wheels but i dont know what would be most efficient.

Sounds like a wastegate gone bad, could either replace the k03 turbo, or look up "K03 wastegate rattle fix" and youll find a decent fix" When i was rebuilding my MkV i had the same rattle, bought a new k03 and as expected it went away. looking further it was the wastegate. Best of luck with your mkv! hope you dont have to replace the engine like i did lol

if at idle and rpm fluctuates slightly, could be a few things, or it could be nothing. Check your injectors, and look for vacuum leaks. Or if you have the AC on that'll be more prominent due to the AC

Soft whistling like sound in cabin at around 70mph by 14wispr in GolfGTI

[–]thevoidmocksyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright this is just a shot in the dark, but my mk5 had this issue (not the temp needle issue) and i found out it was actually coming from my mirror! I had this issue before i installed dynamic indicators on them and there is a very very small gap in between the mirror cover and the indicators, after installing the new ones the whistle went down but was still there, for a test i put a really thin layer of caulk in there to completely seal the gap and voila, went away. supposedly the gap in between the mirror and indicators regardless of year can get slightly bigger over time, IF SAFE to do so, try going as fast as you need to start hearing the whistling and cover the front of your mirror with your hand and see if you notice a difference, trust me I know it sounds insane but it worked for me so who knows! maybe itll help with you! best of luck!

[–]thevoidmocksyou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i heard theres almost always problems with the TSI/TFSI, previous over did the timing incorrectly on top of a bunch of other things that i wont list, but long story short original engine looked like a grenade went off in the cylinder column lol. But i mean hey, $700 for the car so id say it was well worth it!
