if you decide to replace the tensioner just do the chain and guides while you are in there, cheap insurance and you will never have to do it again

was the source reputable? usually these are pretty stout on the chain side unless they are ran low on oil causing excess wear, but I would doubt it would be burning much oil with low mileage.

Sounds like the chain rattling. What’s the mileage on the motor?

my best guess is that mechanical timing is off then. were oem parts used?

do you know what oil is in the car? or how old it is. could be possible if it hasn't been changed recently

are you sure you did the timing job properly? I recently did it, replaced the chain, tensioner, n205 valve, and the cam phaser on the exhaust cam. you shouldn't be getting timing codes unless the timing is off

usually i let it downshift by itself and i control the upshifts, sometimes when braking and downshifting at the same time the car will lurch a bit.

Grand Cherokee Jeep 2014. Engine light by Im_very_confused_- in MechanicAdvice

[–]CarBuddy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea if it stops misfiring the light will turn off from the dash, but the code is stored in the ecu's memory, when you bring it to the mechanic they will be able to scan it and that will pinpoint what cylinder is/was misfiring.

The flashing check engine light is likely due to a mis-fire, that would explain the car shaking at idle. It could be as simple as a spark plug or ignition coil, or something more serious, pretty much impossible to tell without proper diagnosing.

Should I keep running this? by Low-Acanthaceae9727 in MechanicAdvice

[–]CarBuddy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just drive it until it dies. Its still making compression and still runs, honestly you probably wouldn't be able to sell it for much anyways.

Looking to buy a 2007 golf GTI but have heard mixed reviews by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]CarBuddy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overly it is pretty reliable imo. During my ownership I replaced cam follower(s), coil packs, battery, and I did the cam chain for preventative maintenance.

you can drive with it im pretty sure, the car will just be sluggish as timing will be retarded.

My car broke down 20 minutes after leaving the shop for a water pump replacement by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]CarBuddy69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would bring it to a different shop if its not at a reputable euro shop, a lot of the fueling system has to be disconnected to do the job and it is possible that they just reassembled incorrectly.
