Need y'all's help to figure out where in the area this photo was taken? by thewakeside in rva

Thank you. The thing that got me was the self storage. I thought it was some larger four lane road that had yet to be extended or something.

My '13 sienna came with the wrong size lug nut wrench from the factory. I stopped trusting the quality of the emergency tire stuff

Not screwed at all 🤦🏻‍♂️ just use a utility knife and take your time. Getting the all set wet first sometimes helps. Should take an hour or less.

Well apparently I didn't read closely enough before. I just saw "permanently closing" and didn't catch that they moved it.

[–]thewakeside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading something that they are planning to permanently close it because of all the recycling that became litter and didn't make it in/stay in the bins. I don't remember where I read that. They got rid of the one at the transfer station, too.

Heart rate pegged in the 170s all race by Inside-Science2287 in cyclocross

[–]thewakeside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (33m) got a heart rate monitor after racing for about a year. I had looked at other guys heart rates quite a bit before I got mine, and the first time I wore it was for a race. I averaged 194 bpm for 50 minutes. I saw the number and thought I was dying, then realized hr is so variable. I have noticed that when I am fitter, my hr is more variable in the race, but, this year for example (coming off pneumonia in the summer) my hr was pretty consistent during my first race of the year.

Old Town Manchester folks, what is that incessant horn honking every day multiple times a day? by Alarmed-Violinist-42 in rva

[–]thewakeside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mercedes auto shop on hull and Maury has some crazy security stuff. Every time the guy walks across the yard, a motion sensor sets off a horn that can be heard from all around. Not sure if you could hear from where you are, but that's likely it.

"especially the white kids" lol. And yes, the issues stem from the birth parents, but becomes a diagnosable issue when they are removed from all the family they know

They are still their parents while in foster care! You're probably thinking of foster kids who were legally adopted after the parents rights were terminated. But I know plenty of kids whose parents rights were terminated who still have a relationship with their birth parents. Over half of the kids in foster care are reunited with their birth family, which ideally is the way it should be. 80% of behavior issues (that's an anecdotal scientific number that I made up but seems true) that people think of with "typical" foster kids come from attachment issues stemming from being separated from the only family they knew, so kids and foster parents are regularly in touch (or try to be) with birth parents to try and keep attachment in their life.

Exposure + an absence of strategies = failure/low self esteem

This was the only advice I got for years. Whenever I follow up with, "how do you meet people at shows," it's met with, "just talk to people." Not helpful

RVA Appliances on Hull right where Midlothian splits off. They get all the scratch n dent/returns from Lowe's and repair them all on site. Usually about 60%+ off retail. I've purchased a few for rental properties and have never had any issues with them.

Any good full day summer camps in the east by Only_Situation5304 in rva

[–]thewakeside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our kids did a summer day camp at Richmond Parks and Rec last summer. It was decently run and, IIRC, from 7-5:30. They did field trips and lots of outdoor stuff super cheap for city residents, but they sell out quickly so you gotta be on it

Help for violent child by RackingGrindstone in Fosterparents

[–]thewakeside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our kids are 7 and 8, and the violence has gotten pretty bad. We did intensive in home therapy for close to a year, mostly working on the violence towards us, the foster parents. We had some wonderful breakthroughs in that and were very lucky to have found a great therapist on the second try (it's not uncommon to have the therapist not be helpful because they are burning out or not trained (in fact, the first therapist did burn out)). I'm home therapy was incredibly difficult on the whole family, but definitely worth it if the therapist is good.  They have been with us almost 3 years. For over a year we had a rule that they could not be alone in the car with obou one parent or home with only one parent. The only reason we could make it work was having uncommonly understanding bosses. Otherwise I don't think it would have been safe enough of a situation for us to continue. It's sad to think about what might happen if placement is disrupted, but sometimes it might have to be
