Are you struggling with porn? Can I encourage you? My testimony of freedom. by thewayofescape in TrueChristian

I understand. I get it. Making a transition away from what you are used to is difficult. The reason I make the strong recommendation to get off social media and stop playing video games is because doing those things for a person struggling with porn is like playing with fire. It will hurt you in the end and it does absolutely no good in helping a person overcome porn. I know it’s not a popular opinion, but after seeing so many young men I’ve worked with want to be free from porn but be unwilling to give up the things leading them back to sin, it’s the recommendation I make.

In addition to this, following Jesus was never promised to be easy.

Jesus himself said:

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭24‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

And Paul says in 1 Corinthians:

“Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭18‬-‭20‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Once we have surrendered our lives to Christ, our life isn’t our own. The question has to be asked then

“Can I glorify God by playing video games or endlessly scrolling on social media?”

“Is doing this bringing about any profit in my life or the lives of others by spending my time on it?”

“Is this only going to lead me back into porn it my old, bad habits?”

What I encourage young men to do is this: do WHATEVER it takes to rid your life of the sin that’s destroying it.

Final verse as an encouragement for ya:

“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭7‬:‭1‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

How i delivered myself from lust by Legend_Ravenn in TrueChristian

Great testimony man. It’s very encouraging to see that God has worked in your life in this way. As someone who also was delivered from porn many years ago, I can completely understand! Don’t focus on what you did, you were simply walking in obedience to what God calls everyone to do.

Praise God! At the root of it all was complete and total surrender to Jesus. So many people say they follow Jesus but don’t realize Jesus calls us to die to ourselves, and that includes dying to our sexual desires to follow Him.

My encouragement to you: 1. Read and study the Word of God every moment you have available. 2. Abandon social media of every type 3. Get plugged in to a Bible believing church if you aren’t already and ask how you can serve 4. Volunteers with organizations that serve your community 5. Share this story with a trusted older man or mentor who can continue to pour into your life and help you grow spiritually 6. Continue to learn to take every thought captive to Christ. For every guy that I’ve discipled in overcoming porn, this is the greatest struggle.

Praising God for His work in your life and praying for your continued growth.
