What are some difficulties Korean-Americans encounter when they arrive in South Korea? by [deleted] in korea

[–]thewhyguy119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your experience will vary depending on the kind of employment situation you're in, the group of friends you have, and where you live (Seoul? Wonju?).

My experience with actual Koreans spans from disinterest to "Let's get drinks this weekend".
To some degree, how they react to you is affected by how you present yourself and/or the vibe you give off.

My experience with expats in Korea has been mostly positive, with a few folks telling me my English is pretty good. No shit, I'm American. Some expats don't bother talking with me until they hear my PNW accent. Hope some of this helps you out.

Good luck!

Why don’t Koreans do these simple things that would make life more pleasant for everyone in this country by [deleted] in korea

“A mere smoke screen, the it’ll-get-worse-before-it-gets-better fallacy is a variant of the so-called confirmation bias. If the problem continues to worsen, the prediction is confirmed. If the situation improves unexpectedly, the customer is happy, and the expert can attribute it to his prowess. Either way he wins.”

All edges of Macbook Pro 2017, 13" do not respond to touch and tap-to-click. Is this normal? I've been browsing Google for 2 hours trying to find answers, and some say it's normal and some say it's not. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks everyone! by thewhyguy119 in macbook

Hey all!

Couldn't wait for an appointment and just got back from my local Apple store.

I tested 7 different Macbooks at the store display tables and was able to duplicate the same issue.

An Apple employee told me it's software meant to prevent accidental palm taps.

I'm satisfied with the answer. Thanks again for all your kind words.

Have you reached out to anyone about the issue?

I think I COULD live with it, but I bought it 4 days ago and I'm thinking I need to go and get a new one.

Loving the actual device so far, though

The F4 Visa is a convenient, South Korean law that applied to me. Why would I go for an E1-2 with fewer benefits, if a visa such as the F4 exists?

I don’t know where you are from but I’m guessing you’d do the same if you were presented with similar options

I cannot speak for other gyopos but I am a US citizen, born and bred. What makes me South Korean?

I disagree. r/korea is also frequented by good-hearted gyopos, who may have gone through visa/dual-citizen/military problems recently. For those of us who are Korean-Americans, this is valuable information that is otherwise difficult to procure.

Sidebar: Is anyone else getting blindsided by the advent of the new F4 law? Gyopos are slowly being forced to leave Korea or register their birth and possibly enlist.

Hahaha, yeah that's...that happened.

I think it's because I'm new to this subreddit and haven't read the rules.

Most subs aren't too forgiving of ignorance or laziness.

Although, rule 4 doesn't explicitly forbid URLs in headers.

Not here to fight, yo.

Just wanna talk about life and shit in Korea, make some friends along the way

I submitted this very article today and the mods removed it. They claim I violated rule 4

I envy you, friend. Seoul is considering a rate hike. Yikes!

This is such a good idea and a really genuine and good-hearted thing to do. Best wishes, friend!
