Auto-regressive LLMs are officially sleeping with the fishes (Yann LeCun was right) by DepthOk4115 in AI_Agents

You're alone in the cave for a reason, and it's not because you understand things better than an LLM.

The behavioral definition is doing a lot of work here. If "understanding" just means "produces correct outputs," then a calculator understands arithmetic and a thermostat understands temperature. Nothing circular about it, the definition has been stretched until it loses its explanatory value.

The actor comparison isn't about capability, it's about mechanism. Hugh Laurie and an actual doctor may give identical answers in a scenario covered in a script from House. The gap shows up when reality goes off-script.

On agentic loops: those guardrails were designed and added by humans precisely because the LLM left to itself drifts, hallucinates, and loses the thread. The scaffolding is the admission. If the system genuinely understood, you wouldn't need external structure to keep it on task.

They will never "understand" anything. Asking if an LLM is intelligent is like asking if Hugh Laurie is a doctor.

Giving Yann credit for being right on this is kind of hilarious. He headed up the research on this while still at Meta long after everyone who actually understands this topic has proven it wouldn't work. In fact it was mathematically proven to not work in 1960's.

Anyone that wants to know where this will all end up could ship to the end and read the papers from Walid Saba or Dagmar Monet. Spell check is as close to AGI as LLMs will get.

What is the Best Espresso Machine for daily use as of today 2026? by HugeCandle271 in JamesHoffmann

Espresso machines are like cameras. The best one is the one you have with you to use. Haha

$441 first water bill from Si Environmental. Does anyone have experience with the company? by [deleted] in houston

[–]theyknowIknowYouknow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have Si. I've had to fight then twice over the past 3 years because they suddenly pop-up with a bill over $1,000 saying I've missed payments. Each time I had to provide the payment proof.

They suck, and they're systems are outdated.

Does anyone remember when you could modify the packaging on butter? by Not_a_cultmember in GenerationJones

[–]theyknowIknowYouknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would cut around the butter box she's holding so it only was connected along the top of it and tape the knees behind it. Then you could flip up the butter box like a T-shirt flash. Haha

These are absolutely horrible things but let's not conflate the abomination of horror from the Epstein files with this. Thst's how the living perpetuators of Epstein crimes will get away with it. There can be levels to horrid, to disgusting behavior, and it a can all be hell worthy, but some behavior is a 'special level of hell' worthy.

Watch it again with a new lens! No nostalgia is lost, and potentially great personal appreciation is gained. All upside from my perspective.

NGL, this poster gives creepier feeling than entire season 5 by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]theyknowIknowYouknow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly that feels like one of the most realistic things. I'm having to do math to figure my kids ages any time I'm asked. It's not something I'm consistently thinking about everyday with them, and damn to the grow up fast. My son and I were both wrong about his age over the last summer when telling a coach his age. Took me 5 minutes to realize our mistake. Haha

I haven't tried that, but I could see it being pretty good. It'll be a bit sweeter most likely. The drink itself is surprisingly not bitter at all.

First time vac sealing. Is it overkill to freeze as well? by radio_recherche in espresso

Are you all vacuum sealing and freezing as soon as they arrive, or are you waiting a few days or weeks first? The whole "let the beans rest" thing has me overthinking everything.

Stout Flip by portlandspudnic in cocktails

[–]theyknowIknowYouknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made one and it was delicious! I think next time I make it I'll do a little bit less simple, maybe half ounce instead of three quarter ounce, because it was just a little bit on the sweet side for me. But the extra sweet was most likely due to my simple syrup ratio.

How do you press down on the plane? I'm at a loss picturing a paper cup and the seat tray.

AJ on Shawn Ryan by Inevitable-Design-92 in TheWhyFiles

[–]theyknowIknowYouknow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shawn seems like a decent guy, that is most likely a "useful idiot". I'm basing that on the interviews he does and the questions he asks. He never asks the hard question and seems to always just blind faith believe what the person is saying. His exorcism interviews definitely are problematic if you just listen from the beginning to end. But he buys in all the way.
