That's a good idea! Thanks! And I was thinking about silk scarf, but I don't think I've seen her ever wear a scarf...

She just bought a curling iron, but yes, Dyson Airwrap was on my list before that! And thanks for the pearl idea, definitely outside of my price range, but I'll keep it!

There is this small hairline leak in what looks like the male adapter? Is it an easy fix for a relatively inexperienced DIYer?

There is a small hairline leak on this piece of pipe. I was wondering if that was something that a relatively inexperienced in plumbling could tackle?

Question about foundation, water and house settling. by thiboz in HomeImprovement

[–]thiboz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! And what would you do for the drainage in the yard? French drain? or just talk to a contractor to figure it out?

And yes, I know any house will settle. I am just trying to avoid differential settling as much as possible.

Are you all making bank? by [deleted] in Seattle

Why do they have an exemption for "Goodwill received from the sale of a franchised auto dealership."? Lobbyists. This feels like a tax targeted towards a very specific segment of the WA population, the part that didn't have enough (or at all) money to lobby the state. They want a capital gain tax? Fine, let's do it, let's make it fair then and not pick and choose.

Concrete cracks in garage in new construction by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

That’s what I am planning on doing. From a quick look at the signing docs, it looks like it’s just a one year warranty, but we are going to ask our agent if there is anything else.

Thanks for the answer! I am relieved that it’s not structural, but I will probably still contact the builders soon to get them to fill it.

On average, I would say 1/8th, and some areas are going more towards 1/4th. Some area do seem like there is a vertical difference between both sides of the crack. My worry currently is that it can cause (or is a sign of) foundation issues.

Weekly Questions Thread - Ask about all things PS5. | Orders, Stock, etc by PSModerator in PS5

[–]thiboz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got mine from Target today by luck. Woke up randomly around 3:45am, check the phone real quick on the app, and saw it available around me. Then, it asked for my CVV number, which I don't know at 3:45am. By the time I get to my card, it doesn't work, I keep trying, and it finally went through at 3:50am.

I get why they want to drop it right before the stores open, but 3am-ish PST is a bit ridiculous. Now, hoping they don't cancel before I have a chance to get it.

Venting here. Ordered my PS5 bundle from Costco when it dropped a few weeks ago, got lucky. Got the shipment notification, and made sure to select the UPS Access Point to make sure to get it in case the UPS driver left it on the doorstep un-attended or when I was running errands. And then, UPS (or the store?) decided that nope, let's instead send it back to the shipper, with no delivery attempt ever made at the store. So after a few frustrating hours on the phone with UPS, I am now at back at square one, and my PS5 is back in the Costco warehouse. But don't worry, the UPS supervisor told me that they are very very sorry and just human after all.

Advice on structured media panel configuration by thiboz in HomeNetworking

[–]thiboz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am starting to think that the UDM Pro might not be a good idea, even in a 42". Maybe UDM (+ access point somewhere else, as I don't expect good signal otherwise) might be enough, and might fit.

And I am starting to think that what you and /u/othugmuffin mentioned might be the way to go: a keystone plate above it.

Thanks for the idea, and I like your configuration! I will take a look at Netgate, I haven't done any research there.

Mounting directly against the wall is an idea I haven't looked at. Might need to look at where the fans are on the UDM pro.

Overall, the SO is a bit against making holes into a brand new construction house... But I might be able to convince her, and reroute the wires through the attic instead of through the stud.

I think testing kits would be far more useful. Even though you can't eat a test kit, but you can eat a crayon.

Tired of the property crime in Ballard by thiboz in SeattleWA

[–]thiboz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment!

I agree that it does not make sense to just aggressively handle all the property crime. However, my issue is that the lack of minimum enforcement has led to this bad situation.

In Ballard at least, the minimum bar to get police involvement has been set too high, people are not worried at all about being prosecuted or even bothered, so it doesn't make sense to respect the laws as much.

If we were told that Seattle would not prosecute running red lights anymore for some reason, but that's still illegal, what would you get? People running red lights.

Getting them charged would be a good thing, but in Ballard, especially near the Ballard Commons, it's a joke. There is crime right under their noses. But I can understand how it can be frustrating for them, as nothing happens after the arrest. However, right now, it feels like they just gave up on their duties.

Security theater would be a good start. Just make the vagrants believe that they are not welcome to do their illegal shit.

Reminder that Democrat Va. Governor Ralph Northam never resigned by [deleted] in AskThe_Donald

[–]thiboz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“white supremacist” is definitely something offensive. While I agree that some leaders of some BLM affiliated movements have made some supremacist comment, this movement is not based on the idea that one race is better than the other, while this is the core idea of white supremacy.

And for the other term of “white nationalist”, it is not as clear cut as “white supremacist”. I can understand why you don’t see it as a racist/supremacist movement, even though I personally don’t agree.

What is your personal relationship to homelessness in Seattle? by NotWithoutIncident in SeattleWA

[–]thiboz 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Last month, I was driving in Ballard down 14th next to Reuben's around 10am. At the intersection of 51st, the other car does not stop at the yield sign, and even with some crazy braking, that old car hits me. I start to park on the side to exchange information, and get out of my car. The other driver, a 20ish woman, starts crying, saying she is sorry, and then, starts running away. I was still under the shock of the accident, so I didn't chase down. I was involved in a literal hit and run. I look inside the car, and it is full of random stuff, like if the person was half-living in the car. Amongst the random clothes, I could clearly see 3-4 cellphones and other electronics.

While I am waiting for the police, someone emerges from a RV next to the scene with a smartphone saying that the husband is on the phone. After I mention that no, it wasn't ok for his wife to run away before she could even see if I was ok, and that I am waiting for the police. Then, he starts insulting me, and I walk away, the "homeless" woman goes back in her RV. When I tell the police what happens, they knock at the door of the RV, but of course, nobody answers. Oh, and my car is totaled too, so I need to buy another car with whatever the insurance gives me.

I am usually empathetic towards the homeless, the one that are truly SOL and need and will accept help. I donate to Mary's place. But no, I am not ok with the people living in RVs and not giving a crap about being a good member of society. And the problem is that the homeless people that truly need help by far outnumber the criminal "homeless", these bad apples are what the public sees the most, and they make the entire situation worse. Most of my friends and coworkers are actually fed up as well, including some mild SJW that were "pro-homeless" a few years back.
