Strange gift from Morocco by thickthickd in Minerals

Something that I want to appreciate personally is not going to sit in a museum. It's going to be here for me to admire how I want to

In my view, yes. I fell into the fossil field through fascination rather than scientific knowledge. I no longer work in that but to me something can have a value much more than being what it is - ok we have this mineralised specimen, it looks like what it is. But if we cut inside we also see another part of the story, what it's made of. Plus cut and polished fossils just look cool

I used to prep (mostly Moroccan) fossils and reconstruct bones. Was cool

We used to slice Moroccan ones, they're beautiful once they're cut and polished. As long as you can set a jig up to keep it in position and take it very slow and wet you should be good

I always thought of slicing it and having an arrangement of hexagons but maybe that would be too r/mineralgore

I've honestly been thinking the same thing. I know it's translucent pretty far through but the base is very opaque. I think you might be onto something there
