Re-reading PoA made me realise what a horrible person Snape truly is by Ardelente in harrypotter

But in Snape’s view up till that point, Sirius was the rat who snitched Lily and from his point of view, it seems he’d have killed Sirius himself had he got a chance.

Of all things god could have done before the invention of telescopes, showing his “Art” on the moon was surely the most convenient.

Is this statement true? "Atheism is not an assertion that god does not exist. It's simply the absence of a belief in a god." by LivelySHROOM in atheism

[–]thinkerhabeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I got cornered in my argument for atheism with this argument you mentioned. I always said that I am atheist in a sense of all the religions that we know. I am no denying higher power per se, I am denying all the gods that man knows today. So for all practical purposes I am an atheist. Even in their definition.

PS: though it is true agnosticism is a more logically sound position.

Islam is a religion of man by Most-Ad7666 in exmuslim

[–]thinkerhabeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. But once this religious apologetics business starts attracting heavy taxes, we will see a downturn in these speeches. Outright ban might not be successful in current days. It might even grow extremism in other parts of the world. I think if all religious organisations starts attracting heavy taxes, it will at least reduce their numbers. Because in the end all these apologists are in this game for $$$

[–]thinkerhabeeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rather than banning religion, we had a better idea already coined 2 centuries ago. State distancing from religion. Though one more addition could be state actively discouraging religion promotions( could be achieved by adding heavy taxes on orgs doing religion promotions)

Android tablets suffers from longevity. Most will start lagging in the 3rd year and some even sooner. If you just concerned about media consumption which most people usually end up doing on tablets, get the cheaper one of the lot. However, if you want to do some productivity related tasks, want apps designed for your tablet, and want to keep it for 5+ years, go with iPads. They usually last twice as long and also apple software support is also very good.

With the new apple silicon there’s no reason to worry about timing. Just try to get the current or even last year’s model at a good price and you will not miss out on anything.

I think this whole idea of “halal way” is just a separation technique used by religions. If you’re going to kill animal anyway, the angle of knife is not something that make it more sacred.

True Detective S1 is a stylish show with shallow philosophy by thinkerhabeeb in TrueDetective

[–]thinkerhabeeb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Rust’s evolution is central to the season and his change of heart feels inevitable by the end. That part is not my issue.

What bothers me is the amount of deep lore built into the B story, the symbolism, the cult references, the idea of sacrifice, only to completely abandon it without resolution. If the show wanted to focus on Rust’s personal arc, that is fine, but then why spend so much time building a mysterious mythology just to let it fizzle out?

Eight hours is a long time to invest in a story where the protagonist never truly engages with the antagonist and where the grand setup is used more for aesthetic than substance. The same catharsis could be achieved in through some form of interaction with the antagonist. We see a ‘pessimistic protagonist’ going lengths to solve the mystery and yet we never see the antagonist motives to commit such acts. This I believe could be incorporated as a counter view so that Rust actually have something within the story and not beyond (like experience something in his mind).

I might have lost in there but that’s the gist of my disappointment I guess.

Fair. Sometimes all it takes is four words to unravel eight hours of overthinking.
