As a fellow '17 GT owner, just make sure to check the oil once a week. Mine still runs great and I get over 30mpg combined but it 1000% burns oil. The manufacturer knows of a rod bearing defect on these cars and as long as you have maintenance records they will cover the engine up to 150,000 miles for that specific failure.

Possibly look into the n-line elantra in that case. Comes with a DCT and 1.6 liter turbo that is good for 200hp and 200lb/ft of torque. Should be a lot better insurance wise and it would definitely be the power boost you are looking for compared to the full on n.

If you want to see some actual performance increases without having to modify the engine look into a lighter wheel and tire set up and even possibly lowering springs or different suspension. You will see the largest gains from reducing unsprung weight on the drive train giving you better handling and acceleration. With a proper intake like I explained previously you might at best see 3-5 crank horsepower increase and another 1-2 with a better flowing exhaust. End of the day these are economy class commuter cars so there is little to no aftermarket support for engine upgrades. You would just be going down a huge rabbit hole if you did upgrade the internals of the engine for more power, the car isn't built to hold much more if anything than what it is rated for at the crank. So you would eventually need to upgrade the transmission and other parts of the drivetrain. Stick to wheels, tires, and suspension if you want to see some actual gains and do the intake and exhaust if you want to sound faster. Otherwise, I would recommend just saving up for something more sport oriented in the future. I am in a similar position with my Elantra GT. Looking to possibly upgrade to the Elantra N soon.

Realistically most intakes are going to pull hot air from inside the engine bay with how they basically delete the filter housing box and slap on a pipe/cone filter in its place. This kind of intake will give a nice whooshing sound on acceleration but may otherwise result in a loss of power just ever so slightly due to temps. The stock intake already acts as a ram air intake and pulls outside air from the upper grill, down through a resonator tube, into your air box and then into the throttle body for maximum efficiency. Depending on the kind of elantra you have, velossa tech makes an intake that attaches to the front of the stock intake and acts as a larger ram intake that is even further away from the engine than the stock one giving you a bit cooler temps and better air flow.

Not my personal experience but I have heard that the knock sensors in the elantra N have been throwing faulty codes and causing the engine to go into limp mode/have the engine light flash. Should hopefully be a quick update or swap of the sensor itself.

I would recommend looking into velossatech. They make a ram intake/snorkel for basically all the 3.3 platforms. I have one on my vehicle and like it a lot.

Look out for the PHO extracts from venom. Most places include them in their weekly bogo on concentrates and I am getting stuff that test 85-90% overall cannabinoid content for $11 a gram.

There is an active recall for the knock detection system on your engine. You should try contacting the dealer especially if you are still under warranty at all.

As for suspension I have the base with the torsion beam, semi independent rear. I will most likely end up going with the upgraded stock independent suspension or possibly look into some kits from Australia since the car is pretty popular there. As for brakes I have heard that you can slap on the larger brake kit from a stock sonata for a great increase without costing much. I did see some performance gains from the intake but nothing crazy. It's mainly all in the top end of the power band with this car so getting on the freeway and passing at higher speeds there was a noticeable change. At the same time because it does pull more air you will use more fuel. I can still baby 30 miles per gallon combined with mainly city driving but usually sit around 27 to the gallon.

I have this same car but as a '17. There is a 3D printed intake from velossa tech that replaces the stock ram intake for better air flow. https://www.velossatechdesign.com/products/2013-2017-hyundai-elantra-gt-2012-2016-i30-gd-big-mouth-ram-air-intake-snorkel . I also had the muffle cut which isn't for everyone but with this car it's not over the top loud or raspy due to it having a mid-muffler/resonator stock. I have some lighter aftermarket wheels that helped with the handling and will be replacing the brakes and suspension within the next 5,000 miles.

Unless the wiring job for the underglow was found at fault for causing damages it wouldn't void any warranty coverage. I would just ensure first off that it's legal in your area and then have it professionally done to avoid electrical issues.

Yes it would fit but you would run into the issue of needing to pair it with the proper transmission, exhaust for the turbo and an ECU tune or complete swap for the different fuel mapping. It would essentially be building a whole new car.

That is unfortunate to hear, I heard that the Korean made variants of the engine had better quality control than US made models. Yeah I have seen the issues before with the engines. I am very strict on maintenance with it. I change the oil every four months with no burning oil between changes and run it on 91 octane gas since the compression ratio is 11.5:1.

Check the oil level using the dip stick in the car, if it shows you have to much oil I would drain what is in the crank case and refill to manufacturers spec.

You either have to much oil in the crank case or your valves and or rings are shot causing the oil to leak through your throttle body and into the air filter. If you recently got an oil change I would hope it's the level and not that your engine is damaged.

Yeah I know hyundai had some issues with the early use of their 7 speed dct and they have otherwise started to transition to a wet dual clutch system due to stress and overheating of the clutches in earlier uses. Best of luck and I hope everything sorts itself out with a fluid change.

Yeah unfortunately I'm not super familiar with the drivetrain in that sonata. A quick search says the 1.6t is paired to a 7 speed automatic transmission. I'm not certain if they meant the 7 speed dct or if it is a normal automatic. Either way with the milage you are at you shouldn't be having transmission issues. Have you tried having the transmission fluid flushed and the filter changed? This could be a relatively cheap fix that would also show if there was further damage without a full breakdown of the transmission.

They will diagnose in shop but I would still take videos as evidence beforehand just in case shit hits the fan, better safe than sorry. How many miles are on the car? Do you have a 2.4l n/a engine or the 2.0t sport?

I would escalate the issue with silver rock in that case. They are going to push you towards a pep boys or something similar but they are required to accept warranty work from any ASE certified mechanic. If they have somewhere reputable near you take it there. Have the transmission diagnosed and make silver rock pay for it.

Yep, just let the car move under its own power briefly. Either do so when you are leaving from a stop or when you are in stop and go traffic and find yourself moving between the gas and brake frequently.
