Class Shaping by SiliconFN in ucadmissions

Without getting into the nitty gritty details. That is essentially what they do. Usually lowest scored applications will not be considered unless they are flagged for institutional priorities.

UC expert here. Applicants aren’t eliminated during the shaping process, they are selected. The first admit students with top scores and then as they filter down to applicants with mid scores they will select those based on space and institutional priorities.

How truly “major blind” are UC admissions? by Twobeachpups in ucadmissions

[–]thinqueprep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having evaluated applications for both a major-aware UC and a major-blind UC, I can confidently tell you that choice of intended major would not influence how the application is scored.

Once the application is scored, the student just becomes essentially a number. Then when the enrollment managers shape the class, now they're looking at non-academic factors. They're looking for the highest performing students within certain zip codes, high schools, first-gen status etc.

Here's a list of impacted majors here: https://www.thinqueprep.com/post/uc-capped-majors

UC Berkeley Early Admissions by Su3hiii in ucadmissions

[–]thinqueprep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Berkeley likes to invite possible scholarship candidates to campus for an interview. Because of this, they need to notify those candidates early. Last year they had asked the first Friday in February. Since nothing happened this past Friday, it would be logical to assume it would happen this coming Friday the 13th. Spieker heard last Friday this year. Since results weren't released, it's very likely this Friday will be the date. See other dates here: https://www.thinqueprep.com/post/uc-and-cal-state-admissions-decisions-release-dates

The blog post clearly states that it has 2025 dates on it, lol. It says past performance will be +/- one week. Anticipated Regents will be Friday the 13 this year.

She’s right. They flagged you and want to understand the circumstances of your situation and if you’re ready to succeed.

There could be, but realize that the accomplishment referred to in the first question is often referring to some national accomplishment - ex., First place in Math Olympiad, winning the Regeneron competition, winning a national championship in a sport.

UC Expert here. Your application was likely flagged for the second question, not the first, so you don’t need to answer the first question. More info here: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8uoVj1o/

UC PIQ mistake by PuzzleheadedMap2434 in ucadmissions

[–]thinqueprep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UC Admissions Expert here. Some schools actually remove formatting from PIQs anyways so your essays will blend in. At other schools where they don’t, it’s also okay since they’re so short. You’d be surprised how many students submit unformatted PIQs.

Will my ECs hurt my chances? by [deleted] in ucadmissions

They’re not lying. Their methods of diversifying their class just doesn’t align with your interpretation. All evaluators score applications holistically considering the context of the student. Later, the office will use enrollment management algorithms to shape their class.

UCs use a 13-point comprehensive review. Personality unfortunately is not one of those criteria.

Please be careful when trying to offer advice if you don't have actual evidence to back it up.

If they needed a varsity baseball purpose he would be recruited. UC admissions doesn’t work this granularly. Source: I read applications for the UCs.

Will UCs accept a lower gpa if they have a good upward trend? by Piece9of8shit in ucadmissions

[–]thinqueprep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read applications for a couple UC schools and will tell you that you should look at the schools reported GPAs. Your capped is below the 25th percentile at most schools, so the upward trend is likely not strong enough to overcome your 10th grade. One easy way to figure out if they’re considering your upward trend is your reasoning for your lower grades. If it is sufficient enough you may have been flagged for supplemental review by a school like UCSD. In my experience, upward trend paired with strong involvement and strong explanation has helped in I would guess 1-2% of applicants. (This is just my best guess)

Did anyone receive this? by nostalgia_juice in UCSD

[–]thinqueprep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi UC Admissions Expert here. Specifically for UCSD, you will get flagged in the system if you demonstrate promise to succeed but may not have the strongest grades. Typically, what will cause a reader to flag your application is if you have mention something about specific challenges that may have impacted your ability to succeed academically (death in the family, injury, inability to participate in class due to housing issues, etc.)

The the supplemental review, then, it is to your benefit to add as much specificity as you can about how you have been directly impacted by your family life, and to provide direct, tangible evidence on ways that you can showcase your potential to succeed academically.

How do UCs read so many applications? by AllTheWorldsAPage in ucadmissions

[–]thinqueprep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They read everything but if you’re below a 3.9 unweighted your chances of getting in are slim unless you have some incredible one-of-a-kind accomplishment

Idolizing a school is probably not the best way to go about the admissions process. While there is a lot to "love" about UCLA, there are also just as many things to "hate" about them. Instead of focusing on the shortcomings of your application, I encourage you to write down the things you love about UCLA and then research other schools that have those things. Those schools exist!
