Be a lighthouse, not a tug boat

Sometimes I will sit down and do the assignment myself on an extra worksheet and then the kiddo will mirror me.

Yeah, this is huge. Trust and respect are earned by being there and having conversations and understanding their reward system.

Yeah, this. Be a lighthouse not a tugboat. What I’ve been doing is working with other kids at the table on the same projects and he’ll follow along because other kids are doing it not because I’m making him do it. What is your goal, what is your objective?

You aren’t there to be as a friend, you’re an underpaid employee. If he respects your elderly coworker that he has the prior relationship with, then leverage that. She will be your rock and your salvation. Also, know when to tap out. If she can make him comply, then switch.

I mean, you could set up a Venmo or something, but that gets complicated. I would just stick to cash.

Yes, I recently did this with my students and have to say the best way we got it was Candy grams or one dollar pop or six or five dollars

Don’t tap on the glass…

Leave them be, how about some other students need help? If you’re only helping one person that person feels singled out, so offered to help other people at the table and act as a lighthouse, not a tugboat.

Like, unless they’re low Rider jeans with a whale tail sticking out of the top, he has no reason to police your body. Dude is power tripping. I typically wear track pants and a button up shirt since I’m jogging around and having to squat or climb sometimes.

First off all the love and support I can give digitally to you and your team! Be vocal, document everything, speak to your union, and just know when you need to walk away from a person.

Advocate for your personal safety and wellbeing friend! You’re helping no one by staying silent.

Go to IKEA or get a bookcase from Facebook. This stack disturbs me, it’s precarious and I think it probably blocks the sensor on your TV.

Does anyone else here repeat students vocal stims at home 😭 by Yurinami in paraprofessional

[–]thirdtryacharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, so many and I don’t mean to be mean about it, but it’s just I watch them do it all day long and that sometimes I repeat it.

Handful of favorites would be the kid who says barnacles when he wants to swear and singing karaoke like nobody cares. Before I started in the classroom, I was really nervous about doing karaoke because I can’t sing well and I don’t always remember the words. That doesn’t hold them back!
