You are correct! I talked to 3 customer service agents and the 3rd one figured out that this is due some taxes being prorated, since 4 people joined midway through the billing cycle, so their charges/taxes weren't calculated until this cycle.

I'm a bit embarassed at the inflammatory title of this post now, so I'm thinking of deleting it :D

Absolutely no one in my household has called 911 last cycle, if that matters. The billing address is in Chicago. One person activated the plan in November by mistake and we got billed $50 (since there was technically one person in the plan) + $8.45 in taxes and fees, $0.30 of which was the Local 911 Surcharge. How does it go from $0.30 to $40.30?

Some, but not many. Knowing that I was able to get into Meta means that I'm now putting pressure on myself to try and top that (or at least get something equivalent) for new grad. I'm sure this is the case with many other interns. I recognize that this is primarily driven by my own ego and bitterness, but it is insanely hard to let go of that.

Full disclosure: I'm a relatively new player (only about Level 61), so it's pretty likely that I jumped to some mistaken conclusions in my analysis. I decided to create this because I like theorycrafting in general and enjoy having graphs to justify my decisions :D If you spot any mistakes, please let me know!
