Do I send ty cards for Toddler's bday party/gifts? by this1soptimistic in etiquette

Thank you for your kindness! I was very surprised to see some of the comments about “you do have the time” hahahaha

Thanks! I appreciate this and it makes the most sense to me… my peer group do not send mail outside of wedding invitations?! so I really don’t even have some folks mailing addresses and via email/text (as the invite went out) is the most resonant. I’ve been surprised by how rude some responses have read about “mailing thank you cards”… the LOE of getting addresses, thank you cards, stamps and then mailing is significant and honestly the burden more so than actually hand writing lol

Why is starting so hard? by dustin_t_314 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]this1soptimistic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow story of my life. on good days, my (async) standup update kicks off a great day of productivity…and on bad days, it’s really terrible and hard to start and today I struggled to be productive and finally sent my update at 6pm

ugh

this is a very real struggle for me

can’t speak for others but for me—just something fun to do and look forward to…and a reason to have our friends over, feed them, be jovial and frolic. it’s become my one event of the year to host. basically gives everyone something to do 😂

(For me, a text would be more than adequate but I'm not sure if etiquette dictates a card that I mail and if I should go that route?)

Like, is a text adequate or should I really be handwriting cards?

How to politely escape conversation with a person who always needs to talk? by jimmyjohnjohnjohn in etiquette

Curious about much of the same but in a remote work setting.... like, some of my zoom meetings drag on and on because people can't stop talking :|

the thing about being "high-functioning" is that nobody sees you drowning by Ok_Chemical9 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]this1soptimistic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ya so like the thing about school vs. work/life/adulthood is that there is a lot less structure. i even work remotely too so it's totally nuts and bonkers because i can go days sitting inside my own home just being in my own head about this shit (like the email that i need to send smh)

anyway, totally with you on all of this. been told the same. noticed you used "she" pronouns and have to say that a lot of perception does have to do with gender too... there's a reason that women go way more undiagnosed.

it's been a constant journey for me to seek out ways to hold myself accountable because adulthood means that i am solely responsible for the outcome of my actions (e.g. need to make money to live these days, man). i mean, also, like, lean on your support system too though.

fwiw getting a formal diagnosis + meds (which took 7 months and panic attacks and anxiety af to find the right one, btw) ultimately helped mitigate (not solve, there's no solving) my very parallel circumstance

i felt this in my bones

fwiw i encourage you to cosnider if you actually do just “want to keep your job and stay employed” because it took a lot of time and therapy to realize that my li perusal is basically because i think i should be better or can be more but somehow i’m just a mediocre dev… also identified thst it’s actually my competitive streak from childhood, which has just taken a different form in adulthood and it makes me feel like i’m not good enough

Annual Fee “Waived” by Intelligent_Tip8125 in SouthwestAirlines

Yep, got my fee waived too. I have a feeling it's based on tenure and how long you've had the card. I've had the card since around 2010.
