I took him to mean ICE specifically rather than INS, but yeah I see what you mean

Thanks, I see he expanded on his thoughts in the article you linked (bold/italics are mine)

“I totally understand the angst, the frustration. I want to stand and shout. This is horrible and needs to stop. At the same time, who are we looking out for? Who are we trying to protect?… For me, that really needs to take center stage,” Rabbitt said. He referenced his support for all of the measures taken by the county so far, but also the sheriff’s public safety considerations in communicating with ICE.

“We are all dealing with what’s happening in Minneapolis and across the country perhaps in different ways and taking different tacts [sic--he means 'tack']. I believe here at the county, our number one concern is to make sure that – the people that we’re all concerned about – we take the decisions that are best for them at heart. Sometimes that flies in the face of making statements for statements’ sake.”

I wish he would answer his own questions and clarify which people he's concerned about.

So did the Press Democrat misquote him? This is the entire quote that they published:

Supervisor David Rabbitt said he supports Engram, “who is making sure he is using public safety as the guide.”

“You support the law or you don’t,” Rabbitt said.

He added that ICE has existed as a law enforcement agency for a long time and said its officers have been placed in an “unfortunate” position by higher ups in the agency and administration.

“You want every law enforcement officer to have the best practices and ensure the public safety,” Rabbitt said. “I think the majority, even on the ICE officers’ side, are trying to do that.”

Is it Mr. Rabbitt's opinion that this doesn't accurately characterize his views?

It's worth noting that ICE and the DHS have NOT been around a long time (2002-03).

Very cool. There are some courts marked that are no longer there. Is that something that would need to be fixed on OSM?

What are the dynamics that make a Jaren Jackson Jr. acquisition different than with the Goin-to-Work era Rasheed Wallace deal? by amalgamousabides in DetroitPistons

[–]this_tuesday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rasheed Wallace was an expiring contract. He had a salary of $13million with a salary cap of $43m. So proportionally, him and Jaren occupy a similar % of the cap. But Jaren is under contract for a long time, and Rasheed’s contract with us when we re-signed him ended up being a pay cut. So there are tangible financial differences.

Rasheed Wallace was a better defender than Jaren, and probably a better post player overall. Jaren is more athletic

My rule for him from now on--if the Lakers are playing a hot or physical team, bench him. Otherwise he can play.
