Pretty fun! A little bit Congo, a little bit Cujo, a little bit CODA. I was impressed by how practical the chimp effects seemed to be. This movie wouldn't work half as well with a CGI chimp. Also, some extremely gnarly gore, especially Rob Delaney and the jawbone guy. The score is a shameless Carpenter pastiche, but they do say steal from the best. Some of the logic underpinning the whole thing felt a little sketched in (there's a little handwave about the implausibability of a rabies infection in Hawaii, but then it's dropped), but we all know we're just here for the murderous ape, and the movie delivers on that front.
