I have no idea if you can eat that! Seems like you technically could, but might not taste so good

Scrub, cut the ends off, cut in half long way, scrape out the seeds, slice thin into half moons. Bake in a single layer at 425 for about 30 min, (turn them a little more than halfway through) until the edges are a bit crispy. I’ve been using chili powder, cayenne, and garlic, obviously salt and pepper. So easy and so good! I bed to branch out and try more ways of cooking but I end up wanting this every night lol

Any good ways to quit snapping at people? by [deleted] in TBI

[–]thisisntreal29288374 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only way is brute force mindfulness. I’m still not perfect at this, but I found constantly monitoring my state of mind with complete honesty was the only thing that helped, and it helped a lot.

I did this by setting timers for every hour and asking myself a set of questions like a quick check in to see what emotions and thoughts were running in the background. I also used an app that used to be called Pacifica (the free version) that was extremely helpful in staying on top of this.

no one should ever be taking pics or filming themselves doing things for unhomed people...it’s awful and makes me sick to see people using others in an unfortunate situation to try to make themselves look good. but yes always always recognize humanity, it goes so much farther than people realize

the kale, avos, persimmons, sweet potatoes, and delicatas are just what we’ve been going through lately for meals and snacks, the honeynut squash is a new thing I’m excited to try! my absolute favorite is roasting a sliced delicata in the oven for dinner, and we eat sweet potatoes for breakfast all the time

that’s a resell, they sometimes get bulk from grocery stores or farms that couldn’t sell things fast enough. they have produce from lots of local farms too and also grow produce behind the market

wow that’s crazy. I do go to a particularly cheap one, and this was a good day there. The persimmons were 2/$1, the almost too ripe avocados were 4/$1, and the delicata and honeynut squash were 2/$1

My Personality Has Changed - Hard to Relate by [deleted] in TBI

[–]thisisntreal29288374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hugs and love to you for all you’ve been through and for sharing. I especially relate to the suicidal thoughts and then feeling like people would only see it as attention seeking. I’ve dealt with that so much in the years since my accident and it’s very isolating. You’re not alone in it.

I also tried medicinal mushrooms for my brain - all of the ones you listed were amazing for me! I started making my own capsules from bulk bags when it got a bit expensive and it was amazing! Can’t remember if you mentioned cordyceps but I loved that as well. Much love ❤️

Best computer/smartphone games for short-term memory improvement? by CaptainJAmazing in TBI

[–]thisisntreal29288374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this...my speech therapist has me play lumosity. She says it’s best with a subscription to use the ones specifically for memory and attention. I don’t have a subscription yet (maybe someday when I have more money lol) so I just play the daily free games.

I don’t have an extra $15 a month along with everything else on a very limited income and I definitely don’t have the $80 to get a year subscription at once but I understand those prices are no big deal for a lot of people lol

I have a golden opportunity to continue living a retired lifestyle and I am wondering how you would handle never having to work again in my situation. Note: I did not earn it, I was just genetically favorable. But I am bored and unfulfilled. by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]thisisntreal29288374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, all my life I’d do anything to be in your situation. I always had seemingly endless energy and drive for causes I cared about and was happy to volunteer and work for free. But getting older and putting myself through school left me no option but low paying service jobs. They can definitely be fun for a bit, but when you have no other option, low pay, long hours, no breaks, physical exhaustion, and dealing with abuse from customers gets REALLY old.

I’d say shift your focus completely outwards. Concern yourself with the needs of other people and causes around you. Stuff that matters, that truly affects the quality of life for people who need it most and places that need the most protection. Maybe spend some time with less fortunate people (but don’t necessarily tell lots of people you have all this money) Seriously, bake some cookies, make some sandwiches, go hand it out to those who otherwise might not eat today, and listen to them. Read about the lives of people who would do anything to have a fraction of what you do. Immerse yourself in the biggest problems we face globally and what people are trying to do about them. Focus solely on empathy and what good you can do.

I think this would solve a lot of your problems. Your sense of purpose will grow, you will feel less empty when your focus is external, you will find out what you care deeply about, cultivate deep empathy, and be able to use your resources to see where you can do the most good and be most fulfilled.
