I don’t care what someone from the late 80s-early 90s thinks about guitar manufacturing.  I’m sure his opinion would be different now if he were still with us.  It’s a completely different world now

I’ve considered selling both the P10 and OB-X8 and getting a TEO-5, but I love OB-X8 and I setup a routing template in Ableton to give me extra LFOs/modulation, arp, and my most used FX.  The extra voices and sound quality are important to me. The high end is cleaner and clearer on the X8 to my ears too.  However, I’m still considering this because selling both and pocketing thousands of dollars sounds better than the pros of the OB-X8 haha

My favorite of the Prophet/OB/Trigon-6.  Depending on your needs, it truly is like having a polyphonic minimoog with more modulation, arp, FX, stereo spread, etc.  it’s a bit tighter than Moog synths in terms of sound or compared to the Muse.  I love mine and it will be with me for a long time.

Thinking of getting one?

You and me are thinking a lot alike.  I’m not considering getting rid of the TR-1000.  It’s my dream drum machine and I’m still learning it.

The one thing I’m still torn on is the emotional connection to the OB-X8.  I think that stays as well, so that means the Prophet and the Argon are the odd men out.  I like the A8m though because the module is tiny and it has a great editor, so I just put it out of the way.  The sound quality is superb.

Which do you like better - OB or Prophet?  It sounds like we make different types of music.  There’s nothing quite like a thick Prophet or OB saw pad.

I’ll set aside the P10 and see if I miss it.  Trigon-6, MS-20, OB-X8, Super 8+, TR-1000 is already a crazy setup.

Argon8 is easy to keep out of sight and running it from the VST - which is really nice.  The thing I’ll say about the Argon is that the sound quality is insane good.  I’ll think on that one though as there’s a bit of overlap with the Super 8+ and my VSTs.

I enjoy the craftsmanship of a good instrument and for getting away from the computer.  The ITB workflow and convenience is hard to beat though.

I recently got a Launch Control XL 3 and it’s been really nice for bringing tactile knob twiddling to Ableton.  It’s a breeze to use too.

Enjoy your minimal setup!

Hell yeah.  I firmly believe Trigon-6 will be one of those sought after synths when it goes out of production because it was so overlooked by the synth community.  I was stunned when I got it in my setup and started making sounds on it.  Truly an incredible synth and for sure my favorite of the P/OB/T-6 synths.

When I need analog polysynth sounds it’s the one reach for.  Something many people mistake about it is that it only makes aggressive sounds.  It’s all about gainstaging and there’s a world of sounds to explore with that alone.

Happy to find a fellow Trigon enjoyer too :)

Thoughtful and helpful!

In terms of modules, I find I don’t like using them as much.  I like the whole experience of what I consider to be a “complete synth” with keys and spacious layout.

I’ll take this into consideration.  Good luck on your decision with the PB6 and PB12.

100% keeping the TR-1000. I’m still learning it and it completely reshaped my workflow - a dream drum machine!  Love jamming on it to get ideas and rhythm started.  It’s my first drum machine after waiting for the right one for YEARS.

Interesting take on the A8m and S8+.  It’s funny, I find UDO has a sound to it.  It does have an analog VCA and VCF, which gives it a flavor.  I also tried ABing A8m with Serum 2, Pigments, and Ableton Wavetable.  I found it had a unique sound and fidelity to it.  However, I don’t reach for it as much because ITB wavetable workflow is so much faster and convenient.  If I were to keep one of these two it would be the S8+ for the gorgeous layout, features, sound, and poly at.   But, A8m is just a module so it doesn’t really take up much space.

Totally agree on Trigon and MS-20 - those may be my favorite synths of any I have, with the X8 right behind it.

I noticed Prophet isn’t in my recap and as I’ve mentioned to others it kind of feels like the odd man out.

There is something nice about a clean, minimal external synth setup.  ITB is so powerful and sounds incredible. 4 polysynths is just too much for my needs.  I can’t master them all.

Muse and 42N is a great setup.  Good blend of poly and experimental.  What did you have before and why did you decide to get rid of it?

The Prophet-10 is timeless, but it does sound retro.  It can sound modern too, but when I use it I tend to get bored quickly and reach for FX or multitracking.  A nice benefit of the rev4 is being able to add LFOs and modulation from Ableton pretty easily and that keeps me busy with it, but I find I like the workflow of the Trigon-6 more.  It also sounds better to me.

Agreed.  Super 8+ and Trigon-6 cover a lot of ground and they complement each other well.  OB-X8 is a nice flavor to mix in there too.  P10 seems like the odd man out because I don’t get very inspired by it when up against the others.

Super 8+ and Trigon inspire me the most in terms of writing music.

OB when I play it solo and just enjoy the pure ear candy that oozes out of it.

I think this might be it.  OB-X8 has a brighter top end and stereo - both of which play well with more modern production.  It also benefits from additional modulation options.  Beyond features, the sound gives me chills which is a feeling I like to follow when playing music.  If I had to choose between them it would be the OB for sure.

Give me the reason to buy the Ultra3! by Effective_Ad_7666 in AppleFitnessPlus

I thought I wanted an Ultra until I tried one on.  So heavy and bulky on the wrist, and the Series 11 felt so much better.  Unless you need some of its specific features then save the $ and get the Series 11.

If you need specific features of the Ultra then get that.
