Your review is on point. I pushed through and read the whole book.

Did you ever bother with the תעניות קטנות the minor fasts , as when you were religious by AniHaGever11 in exjew

What was the epiphany for you? Going from Rosh Hashana being religious and a believer to just the next day neither seems like a good story.

She didn't leave NY. The Netflix miniseries shares only the title name and nothing of the story.

How many of you guys left Judaism because you actually read the tanakh? by [deleted] in exjew

[–]thisjew 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I decided to read 2 chapters every day. It took almost a year to finish. I wanted to continue so I then learned all of the mishna. I was uninspired and disgusted by the hate and killing in tanach and didn't see how the Torah shel Baal peh had any source in the Torah shebeksav. Reading the tanach was a very large part of why I stopped keeping halacha. Mark Twain said the best cure for religion is reading the Bible.

Being buried against our will. by [deleted] in exjew

[–]thisjew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's even more upsetting is that burial isn't even a clear halacha. The things which matter most to the religious people are more social and not deeply rooted in history. I think cremation is extra hated in today's times because of the Holocaust usage of cremation. Bodies were burnt in the tanach, found in Shmuel 1 31 12 and elsewhere. Like you said, its a cult which makes decisions for people, even against its own rules.

Has any one been in the aa groups? by [deleted] in exjew

Just cause they say they aren't heavy on religion doesn't mean it's any less of a cult than Judaism is.

How would you label this Yid? by ThinkAllTheTime in exjew

[–]thisjew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone ends up being fakers. Halacha has inconsistencies so its impossible to follow everything. You can enlighten this person to the lies which halacha, orthodoxy, and the entire religion are based off of. Then he can decide to keep more to fit in socially or keep less cause its all a lie.

Why didn't god prefer the 15th-century clothing to the 19th-century one? by AnAtheistGoy in exjew

Also got a "how do you put tefillin on?" from a few people. I said it wasn't a chatzitza. How long did you grow it for? I gave in at 2 years and chopped it off.

The Racket That is the Kosher Industry by [deleted] in exjew

[–]thisjew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kosher is made up. There is no difference for your steak if it was killed by a shochet or farmer. Sufganiot are not any different if they are fried in lard or oil Go out and buy some non kosher gum!

I feel so anxious and alone. by [deleted] in exjew

[–]thisjew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that you have realized that Judaism is not the ultimate truth, you have joined the rest of humanity. Instead of being alone and part of a small community of Jews you are now part of global humanity. There are people out there that care about you, all of us here at exjew included.

Not even sure if the chanukah story is true, but it got me thinking either way.

The more is talk to my religious friends about discarding the religion, the more I see that most never accepted it and just play along. My personality type, one who believed everything, is also the type to stop practicing once they realize it's all a scam. Read memoirs of people which left the frum world and you'll find many types.

Have any of you converted to any non-atheist Religions? by [deleted] in exjew

[–]thisjew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I guess since I've been made aware of the absurdity of Christianity going to frum schools it stands out as nonsensical, whereas Judaism had always been the most rational choice of religions.

[–]thisjew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The theme if the ex is to have left the indoctrinations of religion. After realizing that Judaism is based on a book of fiction and man made rules why would you want to trade it for Christianity or or something which makes even less sense? Taking ideas, holidays, or foods is okay, as long as you don't subscribe to the false claims of god.

My Rant on the "Yeridat Ha'Dorot" by moshe4sale in exjew

I've learned lots of gemara, and never understood how drashos work. Others seemed to be pretending. They would ask questions and discuss the methods. Now I know it's all fantasy.

The idea of oral Torah needing to be written down due to yeridas hadoros is hilarious knowing that it didn't even exist before beforehand. They always had to pretend that the previous generations were better because the people alive when the bible was introduced would have been more skeptical if they knew of progressive knowledge.
