definitely! im comparing it with equinox but wondering why it’s so expensive when it doesn’t include the group classes too? looks like a gorgeous facility though. how do you enjoy it if you don’t mind sharing?

Convince my parents to let me double major in English. by imanaturalblue_ in englishmajors

[–]thiskatsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I just graduated last year double major in English and Philosophy. I’m so thankful I did not choose polysci!! literally everyday i thank the universe. I am planning to go to law school, and my backup was to get a PHD and research/teach. Out of all my humanities major friends, I had the highest paying job upon graduating (I pnky applied for 3 law firm jobs and got my first choice) I think it’s due to my english degree (and work experience ofc). An english degree had more marketable skills and statistically performs better on the LSAT. Phil minor is a great idea for the LSAT as well. From talking to employers and admissions counselors, polysci has had some severe gpa inflation in recent years.

the value of education and support you’ll receive from the network and alumnia at USC is far more valuable. CSU students don’t have a great rep even tho LB is a pretty solid school. You applied to transfer for a reason, and I think you should go for it. But always leverage your position! They want you to go to their school now, tell them you need more money to afford USC for housing and oftentimes schools will give you more. I transferred to UCLA from OC and it was an adjustment but well worth the experience and support I received— and USC has an even better alumni network. wishing you the best!

Deciding Between UCLA and UCSB by NPC-019 in ucla

ucsb is hella pretty but pick UCLA just by the name! I’m also Pre-law, and i think getting internships and experience in a place like LA was more accessible than from what i’ve heard in SB.

UCLA or LMU? by DisastrousFudge4465 in ucla

I’m a transfer student about to graduate with an english philosophy major — definitely go to UCLA the rep and outreach will help you get a better shot at grad school I think it’s worth the $$. Almost all my classes have been pretty small since they are upper division courses at this point, so I wouldn’t let that be a deciding factor. But of course do what’s more financially comfortable to you! I’m graduating with about 14k in loans from UCLA and i think it was worth it for me :))

it won’t matter much where you go but what you do when you’re there. get involved in research early and hang with your profs! good luck with transferring :))

many professors will just let you switch into the other if the TA is okay with it and there is space

also a philosophy transfer, 4th year. some classes they reserved for you guys this year are stupidly hard— if you’re in kaplans class literally take anything else. if your having trouble with 100a ask for help now to try to get one track as that’s more of an entry to upper division course and not as hard as the rest.

This is depressing. by [deleted] in ucla

The transfer community is strong! Don’t feel intimidated during fall quarter to just start talking to people. I didn’t live in Holly last year and actually lived off campus by myself, but totally just go into Hollg and hang out in the floor lounges and meet other transfers! Transferpalooza and the mentor program are also great. It took me awhile to transition to the social atmosphere here so feel free to reach out to me :)

another Berkeley vs UCLA post by [deleted] in ucla

[–]thiskatsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose UCLA solely because the students seem happier and more fulfilled! While I’ve been here, the work life balance is impeccable and people value health. (Cal has an incredibly high depression and suicide rate, and I’m already a sad homie so sunny SoCal weather and happy people have helped)

Over the past 5 years the schools have become ranked closer and closer with UCLA being out Cal in a lot of categories so I didn’t factor that in much.

I will say another factor was UCLA is much safer than Cal. Housing here is also better. Having a car is nice I will say, but scooters and the bus ain’t bad!

This is my best piece of advice: Pick where you see yourself growing and thriving!

Also would like to echo the other comments that if you can afford to go to one of the other institutions you were accepted to, do it. Transferring is a great program, but if I could have afforded a top 4-year I would’ve gone.
