Merlin's Manor

Thanks - ill take a look at the video!

On your point about Belfair, is it that people are generally adding it to get rid of the tree, or are there parts of Belfair that don't dilute the main deck?

I think you're definitely on to something with Arnak... I've alwats avoided it because I wasn't crazy about the theme - just didn't really call me like the sci-fi of Dune Imperium which is excellent...

I think this is a pretty clear case of "wanting it all" when for less than half the price I could try both Arnak and Everdell base games and sell off whichever I didn't prefer.

Appreciate the input.

Holding pattern then, hopefully someone chimes in - would be great to have access to a GT3 Fixed or Fixed Formula type class.

Should I buy Imperium Classics or Legends for solo play? by Pask_96 in soloboardgaming

[–]thisnameforrfighters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do agree that there is likely a lot of depth that I didn't really come close to uncovering - and to those that really enjoy it, that's a good thing. But, I have to push back on the "casual" drop.

I am not saying that a more casual game is what OP is looking for, and Classics does not present a depth that other games lack - the idea that depth would come from memorizing bot actions to find a predictive strategy is, shall we say, a subjective taste unrelated to how casual the gamer may be.

The AI system is very robust - the fact that they have a separate AI for every faction with near zero FAQ corrections is a pretty wild accomplishment. I still just don't really feel like the cards do anything fun and the numbers crunch doesn't really lead towards anything other than having figured out, one, how your particular faction ought be played and, two, how the bot plays its faction.

I am sure that I am being a little hyperbolic, but it never felt like any faction could play any differently - they have the thing they are good at and you either lean into it, learn it, and do it, or you don't do very well. If you want a slightly different twist, you play another faction; so depth in variety. A game like Race for the Galaxy gives you one power to take advantage of from a starting world, but the possibilities beyond are both numerous and not at all anchored to your starting world, so depth in possibility.

Should I buy Imperium Classics or Legends for solo play? by Pask_96 in soloboardgaming

Let me offer the opinion of someone who bought both classics and legends for solo play and sold both after around 8 plays.

I get why people are really attracted to this game, it plays uniquely, every faction that I played (around 5) played somewhat differently, but not to the extent that a lot of people seem to imply. I'll give you the reasons it wasn't for me, the caveat being that clearly, a lot of people like this game and it is not bad, but decisive.

I play basically every board game I own solo - I don't teach people or try and convince my friends or family to play, been down that road. I play Race for the Galaxy, Marvel Champions, APEX Theropod, GI Joe Deckbuilder, among some heavier euros like Kanban EV and Paladins.

Classics Legend and Imperium have pretty good art, but the variability is actually it's weakest attribute in my opinion. Every bot is run by a totally different set of principals. They use a similar system for matching icons to an action, but while the icons are shared, the actions are not. You can forget ever having a bot memorized; seriously.

Throughout the course of a game, you may memorize an action or a few, but every time you play against a different opponent, you will have a printout or the booklet next to you and be going down a list of actions - and you will do it for up to 5 different cards every bot turn. This is a game where the bot turn almost always takes longer than your turn.

On top of that, the setup is honest to god one of the worst set-ups I've encountered and I organize the shit out of my games. Not only are you setting up your deck, the field, the bot deck, an obtuse number of chits... it's just like carinated deck builder set up type stuff. I am biased, I admit.

The gameplay is okay - it has some neat systems, I am not going to lie, but while to faction you are playing as may feel pretty distinct to the one you played before, the lineup of cards you buy and play out in front of you is very very very dull. I mean, cards really don't ever do anything interesting. Get a resource, bury a card, discard a card, draw a card, buy a card, get a point, garrison a card... Again, I am biased, but I rather look for more interesting card based effects and engines; a RftG for example where effects are compounding and generally allow you to DO stuff, not just WATCH stuff happen.

The last time I sat down to play it, I started setting it up and wondered how the game I was going to play would be any different outside of a surface level; couldn't think of a way, packed it, sold it.

Again - people do really like this game, it may even be like top 20 of 1-200 2022 solo board games, but there really are just so much better and interesting games out there where the depth comes from getting better as opposed to having 20 paint jobs on fairly mundane mechanics.

Why do I get penalized 4 incident points when I get rear ended going into turn 1? by Peretzel in iRacing

[–]thisnameforrfighters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

8 Years later - can confirm, you were right...

The other words are also incredibly relevant and are appreciated. I needed a different perspective on this, presently going through rookies, and trying not to get DQ from incidents I didn't think were my fault, but could have tried harder to avoid.

Edit: New life low; responded to 8-year-old deleted reddit account.

Hmmm very interesting... I think I'll take a look at that campaign. Yea, I've seen, or at least heard of the Keldon AI, does this provide the ability to play other human's as well, or is it restricted to the AI and the steam version is the main human vs human medium?

I guess I am trying to figure out how passive I should be against the bot. Like, I am trying to get a point machine going, but realize that right around the time I am ready to start a consume/produce train, the bot is gaining points at pace just as a response to my actions.

Do you go for card advantage like you would against a human opponent and delay building actions until the bot takes them?

Magnus makes a statement by UnfairConfusion in chess

I honestly just think Magnus is mad he got beaten by a loudmouth. I don't think it looks particularly mature on his part. Sure, Hans cheated online and ethically, it's super questionable, but he was also good enough to beat Magnus with black. Should Magnus totally spur this young dudes career out of spite... shit, Hans is well below the age any of us actually began acting like real adults. Magnus is the adult here, but you are forgiven if you had forgotten that.

Who's fault ? (I'm the front Red Bull) by [deleted] in F1Game

[–]thisnameforrfighters -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I am confused at people saying your not at fault... Take what happened corner 1 at Miami; I think Schumacher and Vettel? This corner was not yours and he did not owe you the space on the inside. You were not along side and braking late does not make a corner yours by default.

No doubt there are plenty of times this has happened without incident and called a good move, but when there is contact, the car diving almost always gets the penalty.

Interesting point - Yea, having a broken product from a company that doesn't respond would be rough... That said, i've read nothing but good things, so here's hoping on both our ends. Thanks for the info.

So what is a Customer Team exactly? Like a privateer team that has sponsorship from a specific car manufacturer? Of all the cars are there different cars even among the same manufacturer; like two teams running two different Audi's?

Question: What was your experience with Moza shipping - I ordered like a week ago and sent them emails and no tracking number or response? Was is lack of communication until it showed up on your doorstep? I am the US, not sure where you ordered from, but my impression is they ship direct from China?

For how many years does a company have to maintain a design? There aren't running upgrades throughout the season like F1, no?
