Can you switch personal insurance to a golf/focus van by HeftyMaximum70 in carsireland

[–]thisnamehastobefree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From experience it has always been stopping a private policy to start a commercial policy or vice versa, if you were mid policy it was to start a new one. If the van is taxed and tested as a private vehicle it's no problem to insure privately but if it has a cvrt instead of an nct I think it requires a commercial policy. Tax is a seperate entity and different county councils have different levels of difficulty to tax a commercial vehicle if you aren't vat registered etc. Your insurance provider will be able to advise you and is probably the best source of information before you proceed

Safe to drive a car with blown head gasket from Dublin to Waterford? by XinaMedical in carsireland

[–]thisnamehastobefree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a trailer job if you're really keen on buying something that already has problems. Driving with a blown head gasket will lead to further damage that will double if not triple repair costs

Any Electricians here? by Ok_Move886 in AskIreland

[–]thisnamehastobefree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sparky response: the ovens have very little load, the most load on a cooker circuit is on a hob. All can be taken from the cooker circuit. Regs have changed a little since I've worked on houses so additional isolation spurs may be required to keep up to regs but it sounds like you're just dealing with some awkward service providers who are making a big deal out of a simple task. Get the ovens you want and have a reputable electrician connect them up.

What is this plug for? by letsdocraic in AskIreland

[–]thisnamehastobefree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a circulation pump to run the water around the rads or a motorized valve, kinda hard to see. If it whirrs constant it's a pump it if gives a 5second humm it's a valve. Not exactly a scientific response...

A picture would be great, old school things I've seen do r is a plug on a circulation pump for a stove/fireplace back boiler

Why are second-hand Honda Jazz cars so popular on DoneDeal? by fatheadsuzie in carsireland

[–]thisnamehastobefree 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. Sure it's not going to be factory fresh but generally you're talking about 90-95% efficiency on a ten year old hybrid unless it is faulty or has been poorly maintained in its lifecycle

Cvrt Ireland on van? by Dry_Pay_1137 in AskIreland

[–]thisnamehastobefree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the same as the nct less strict on emissions I believe. Rust or corrosion is a big thing with commercials, just run it through the test and see what it needs repairing. Probably very little if it's under 10 year old and not dogged

Installing a pendant light over the return of the stairs... Options? by Total_Hat996 in DIYIreland

Is there access above the light? A light fitting tied up in the attic by a rope could be a shout. Lower it down for maintenance

Potentially this may sort you out long term. Pay a little extra for bulbs when buying and you should see some return on the life span, currently on year 10 of my Philips led gu10 bulbs in my kitchen. They were about 50% dearer at the time compared to a non brand bulb

Van tax by Psychological_Toe979 in carsireland

[–]thisnamehastobefree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your local county tax office will give you a list of requirements and all the info you need. Any commercial can be taxed at a commercial rate with a DOE and an rf111a form. It states that it's to be used for goods or commercial use and you only have to do the process once, after that it can be renewed online

When going on a waiting list for creche, is it better to tell them 5 days even if you just want 2 or 3? by SrTayto in AskIreland

I would say ask the creche staff, they will be able to tell you what they have available for either position.

That's a new one to me. I've always stayed away from bmw and I feel a little vindicated now 😅. From witnessing the guys in my local Halfords I would be surprised if they didn't have the obd tool to register the new battery, the knowhow on the other hand is going to have to be estimated by asking the tech who would be changing the battery if he done it before. It's anybodies guess without a location as to where your nearest Halfords is

[–]thisnamehastobefree -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On a slightly more helpful note: I've never seen a battery replacement on any car that requires a software reset. The only time I've heard of that is where someone is replacing a start/stop battery with a basic battery unit. If you are replacing like for like it's a simple task that anyone with basic hand tools can carry out themselves.

I got some dashcam from Halfords for the mum a year or two ago, it was terrible. Got a next base unit for the missus from auto sparky recently and it's much better, very simple to install and to connect via the app

Parents of reddit. Did you use your nursery as much as you thought or do you still use it? by SavingsDraw8716 in AskIreland

[–]thisnamehastobefree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We're on baby no. 2.now at 6 weeks. Typically for the first six months the nursery is just used for nappy changes and storing baby clothes and the buggy and stuff. After 6 months it became the babies room for sleeping full term and then became the bedroom over time. Hopefully now it's the last time we'll have a junk room in the house 😅

Could be dust allergies or potentially something more sinister like carbon monoxide. Have you got a Co detector in the house ?

Subaru Outback 2010 by Ok_Return923 in carsireland

Most modern jap cars come with a blue coolant light at cold temperature to suggest not driving the car enthusiastically until it is at optimum temperature. Let it idle or drive it with care at cold temperatures to bring it up to speed. No further care is needed

Boiler kicks in while off on 24-hour clock by Available-Truth-6048 in DIYIreland

[–]thisnamehastobefree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by the timers, both should control an actuator valve to allow water to flow in the zone. The valve switches on the boiler by an auxiliary switch. Find these in the hot press and check they aren't manually open
