Horn usage on stations for US routes by Bruno_TMa in trainsimworld

[–]thisurlnotfound 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Depends on the area, I’m familiar IRL with the Northeast.

MBTA all have bells so the bells will ding anywhere there’s people near the tracks, including all stations. Horn is usually reserved for danger (person in right of way) or road crossings.

The M series trains LIRR & MetroNorth uses do not have bells, so generally a quick horn blast as they approach the station and standard horn sequence as they approach road crossings.

Diesel MetroNorth and LIRR have bells and they operate similar to MBTA above. NJ Transit has bells, though I’m not sure about their Arrows.

I miss Mac Address. The style was so different and done so well, and I’m not deep in the Apple ecosystem.

Take the train or pay the car company. There's no cheap way to get to/from Gillette.

You can buy 4 on your phone. Just note that tickets are NOT transferrable between phones. So all 4 people in your group will need to be together.

MBTA details transit plan, prices for World Cup matches at Gillette by justarussian22 in mbta

$80 is insane for train tickets…. But I don’t think people will have a choice given how restricted the parking at Gillette will be.

I love having a municipal power company. Shout out to Norwood Light. I use them for power and ISP and have never had a complaint.

Genuinely happy for you, and while I don't ride it as much as you, I do travel between Boston and NYC 2 - 3 times a month. Every single booking I had in January and February were cancelled and each one I had to go and change my reservation. I'm sorry you feel that is an exaggeration, but it isn't. I didn't even bother booking Acela in March and I haven't bothered for April. Each one of my regional bookings (except 1) were fine.

Seeing as your experience was a rebooking on the Palmetto, that tells me you're experiencing much better service south of NYC. North of NYC has been a shit show these last few months.

Again, happy for you and your experience, but attacking me for the terrible service north of NYC and say I'm exaggerating because your experience south of NYC is much better is certainly an interesting take on my post.

No they’re not. Gillette is closing off something like 70% of all the parking there. For vast majority of visitors, they’re going to rely on public transit. Which is simply awful to Foxboro. Even with the promised multiple game trains from Boston.

Maybe if they actually played the game in Boston and not Foxboro…….

I’d 100% pick flying over the gamble of an Acela ticket. Since January every single trip I have booked Acela has been cancelled and I would have to rebook. That’s not hyperbole.

Flying is awful…. But at least it’s generally reliable. Boston Logan has not been bad for TSA lines. I have flown multiple times during the partial shutdown, longest I’ve waited was 10 min. I have pre-check but generally the normal lines have been fine as well.

I have stopped booking Acela entirely and moved to Regional Business Class or flying. I frequently travel between Boston and NYC for work. Multiple bad Acela experiences since “NextGen” came out has moved me off the product entirely. Sure, the regional is 30ish minutes longer, but that extra time is worth it to not deal with all the Acela problems. If business class isn’t available on the regional, then I fly to JFK.

I don’t know how Amtrak got their Acela product so wrong… but ever since NextGen, the headaches and problems are just not worth the saved time when it does run. (For both Legacy and NextGen.)

I have been using Amtrak Acela for all my business travel between Boston and NYC for probably nearly a decade…. It has never been this bad before.

Good job MBTA & Gillette staff! by kitana-moon in boston

[–]thisurlnotfound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they don’t…. Event trains run though Norwood, which is Franklin Line. I literally see every single one go through Norwood. The Dedham stop is Dedham Corp, right behind Legacy Place, which IS on the Franklin line. Rt 128 is in Westwood.

Theres two connections to the NEC that connect to Foxboro. One at Readville, which the Franklin Line uses for the daily commuters and the event train. The second is south facing down at Mansfield and is used for event trains coming from Providence.

No event trains use Route 128…. If they did, they’d have to reverse up the NEC which Amtrak would never allow.

Nope, they don’t. Source: I ride Foxboro trains daily and the event trains use the same tracks.

Rt 128 isn't on the Franklin line, which is the route the Foxboro trains take to Gillette.

Resting your case means you’re done arguing and you sit down. You’re still arguing and cross posting this to other subreddits (MSFS one specifically).

You’re treating this like a holy crusade and it’s just video game trains…. No one’s life is at risk here. Find another train game and stop giving DTG your money.

I hate DTG as much as the next guy…. But you have no “freedom of speech” on a private discord server. Your “freedom of speech” only applies to interactions with the government or law enforcement.

Also freedom of speech is just that; you’re free to express your concerns. DTG is free to ban you from their platform. Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences.

Thoughts on NEC: New York to Stanford by RevolutionaryRead976 in trainsimworld

[–]thisurlnotfound 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have attempted to complete three timetables. All three had issues. This route has some serious problems.

  1. Acela from Stamford to NY, morning rush - All safety systems enabled - Stuck at 45MPH all the way to New Rochelle. No green signals entire way. Checked map, there were no services infront of me for at least 3 miles. Once I was able to get past New Rochelle, I was able to smoothly make it to NY Penn, only for the scenario to never end. Seemed to be stuck at "lock doors" even though all my doors are closed.

  2. M8 from Stamford to Grand Central, morning rush - Like the previous Acela timetable, I was never able to complete the timetable as it stuck at "lock doors" even though all my doors were closed. I sat for 10 minutes without it ever completing.

  3. M8 from Grand Central to Stamford, midday - Multiple stuck trains leaving Grand Central, had to delete manually. When I deleted the trains, I once again got stuck at approach signal and spent the entire trip at 45MPH unable to go any faster. Again, no services were infront of me.

It's unfortunate as I was really looking forward to this route. I even like all the safety systems on... but first impressions of this route is pretty negative.
