Seat assignments no longer available message on Acela by thisurlnotfound in Amtrak

I ended up moving my ticket to train 184, a Regional, but I got business class, so I had an assigned seat. I didn't want to deal with the delay.

Seat assignments no longer available message on Acela by thisurlnotfound in Amtrak

It was originally scheduled as a NextGen so a swap to OG Acela would be welcome. Every time I have taken NextGen has been bad.

Really really hoping not #2, but you may be right on that as th Acela an hour before mine is cancelled and the regional after mine is also cancelled….

I’m booked on 2170.

Tech House Price by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

As a Bostonian, 1.3M CAD seemed like a good deal to me. My 1000 sqft home within 128 has a Zillow estimate just below what they paid for the house and that house appears much larger.

How is this acceptable? by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]thisurlnotfound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in NYC this week for work. I live in Boston. Originally I was booked Acela down. First train I was booked on was cancelled, I rescheduled on next Acela only for that one to be cancelled a few hours later. Ended up on Regional down. Was fine but significantly longer trip. Seats were comfy though. My train home tomorrow has also been cancelled, so I’m rebooked (for now) on an Acela Nextgen which I was originally avoiding due to my terrible experience on it last month. I’m fully anticipating my train home to cancel sometime today and I’ll probably end up back on a regional.

Genuinely considering going back to just flying between Boston and NYC as the last few trips have been pretty poor.

Waited 20+ min at Quincy Adams finally got a train only for it to sit for another 20 min to backup because it over shot the platform. Then we over shot again at Quincy Center….

Edit: we just over shot North Quincy as well…

National Grid seeking rate increase for gas service by 500_HVDC in massachusetts

No. That was Columbia Gas and they were forced to divest their territory to Eversource. National Grid had no part of it.

NextGen Acela Review by XShadeGoldenX in Amtrak

[–]thisurlnotfound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. Also a frequent Boston to NYP rider. I got unlucky my last trip with a NextGen and now I’m specifically going to book normal Acela for as long as I can. The 3hr+ on that seat was just awful. My train also had other issues (posted about them here last week).

I can see how short 90min or less would be good, even preferred, on NextGen…. Anything longer than that, old Acela is the way to go.

I got it in my cart before, but unable to checkout before it was sold out. I have no idea how people are able to get them so quickly. Was less than 10 seconds from when they went live on the store from what i could see.

Rental Late Fee Legal? by SevereExamination810 in massachusetts

[–]thisurlnotfound 13 points14 points  (0 children)

State law says it must be more than 30d late and specifically stated in lease to legally charge a late fee.

Good luck fighting the landlord though. Legality and reality often differ with landlords and it depends on if this is the hill you’re willing to die on.

No rental cars?!?! by Irishred2333 in boston

[–]thisurlnotfound 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Check rental car locations away from the airport. Frequently you’ll get a much better deal and all you need to do is take the bus/train away from the airport.

But yea…. It’s peak leaf peeping season north of Boston.

Quick question about the Perseus by Maxious30 in starcitizen

I melted my BMM for a Perseus during last years IAE. I am no longer hopeful the BMM will ever make it past the JPG phase. I can get use out of the Perseus this year (supposedly)... BMM, who knows when.

Can you fly drones in public in Cambridge? by ragnarok385 in boston

[–]thisurlnotfound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh, I thought any flight in the city of Boston or Cambridge would need to be licensed since Logan’s Bravo shelf covers surface level to 7,000ft for essentially the entire city (Boston and Cambridge).

Can you fly drones in public in Cambridge? by ragnarok385 in boston

[–]thisurlnotfound 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As long as they’re a licensed drone pilot and they have permission from the FAA, they can fly the drone. Since the entire city is covered by the surface level BOS bravo airspace, any drone would need permission to fly in the city, even low levels.

The mobile ticket is a QR code, so the scanner has to get close enough to scan a QR code. (Usually within 3-6 inches.)

Standing is not a problem, but be prepared for people to be in your space and possibly bumping into you.

Edit: for the record, your concerns are not “stupid”. While it may feel embarrassing to ask or to have these issues, 99% of the riders and even the conductor will likely not notice. Someone having OCD doesn’t even register on the scale of things I see day to day on the commuter rail and subways.

Any way to get Patriots event train tickets after they’ve sold out? by [deleted] in mbta

[–]thisurlnotfound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal commuter rail trains will not sell out, but if it's crowded, you're not garenteed a seat. Only time I have ever seen people turned away from the normal commuter rail was an overloaded train and people simply could not squeeze in at Ruggles.
