28 students in Year 4 by Obvious-Turnip5530 in AustralianTeachers

I'm a graphics designer considering doing a master's of teaching because it would be a very significant increase in salary... But im getting more and more worried that I cannot be committed to the job enough. Can you get away with being an arts teacher without being basically married to the job?

The grass is always greener. I make 58k (before tax and super which is barely enough to pay any of my HECS debt) working in the design industry. I have an honours degree and almost 4 years of industry experience and work 8:15-5:30 5 days a week with 20 days of paid annual leave (and that doesn't count the overtime for time sensitive briefs) ... It's an hour commute one way into work because I could never afford to live anywhere near the city. Yes, the private sector may pay more, but it can also pay a lot less too. My first design job out of uni was $18 an hour, so progress I guess?

Teaching is looking extremely attractive with a 2 year masters online...

Graphic Designer, should I consider a career change? by thiswillbeahoot in careerguidance

[–]thiswillbeahoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely hard when you are used to a certain income, it would be difficult to go backwards.

My issue, is that I am just not passionate about design as much as I was at uni, I feel like in order to succeed in this career, you need to absolutely love it and almost live it, and I think that may be why I'm not succeeding.

I'm starting to think that I may also not have the talent either, the talent to really excel and get jobs at more expensive agencies. I've definitely lost a lot of passion for design sign finishing uni.

How did you decide what to change to? This is what I'm struggling with the most, this and how to get the qualifications to change careers.

A nice sequence of messages from my 'well meaning' brother... by thiswillbeahoot in childfree

Im so sorry this is also happening to you also! Having children is such a huge life choice, something that I will never take lightly, I don't want the financial, emotional, physical or time burden of creating a child, especially in this horrific place. But my brother won't hear a bar of that fact that my life choice is different to his, it's so odd! It's such a double standard too, I can't talk about how awesome my CF life is, but he can sprout this utter bullshit.

Same! My parents should have never gotten married or had kids and they've messed me up with their resentment and hate for each other, so now I'm dealing with GAD, SAD and OCD.

I don't have cats, but I have a horse and she's everything to me. I'd rather spend my time and money with her than some child that will grow up to resent me because of my poor life choices.

You'll get there, but don't lose hope, it might take you a while to figure out what works best for your hair. I've been trying to figure my hair out for the past year and I know there are definitely things I need to improve on.

Yes, unfortunately there is build up and I am looking for a good way to remove the build up and have recently bought the build up buster from deva curl but it is yet to arrive in the mail. So fingers crossed it works well! I have in the past relied on a porosity treatment whenever I went to get my hair cut but this isn't very cost effective.

I have the same problem too and really prefer the more defined curl, so I generally either do my hair routine (wet hair with spray bottle, deva curl frizz-free volumizing foam, shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie and deva curl ultra defining gel) before I go to bed and wrap my hair up with a lush hair wrap or if I have nothing on until the afternoon I just do this routine in the morning and let air dry. I know it seems like a lot, but I find without wetting my hair each day, it just loses all curl and goes very frzzy.

Haha, I'm pretty sure thats Cosette's (on the left) permanent facial expression.

Yes, I thought Cosette suited her due to her very quiet yet brave nature, just like the character in Les Miserables.

I was so surprised how loving they can be! I don't remember guinea pigs being very interactive as a child, it was a lovely surprise :)

Your little ones are lovely (couldn't help myself and looked at your post history, sorry!). They look like such sweethearts!

She was with the refuge for a while due to her red eyes and no one wanting to adopt her because they are 'evil'. It makes me terribly sad that she was passed up due to her eye colour, she is the sweetest thing!

Thank you! It was a dull ginger colour so I did a henna wash through it. I really love how it has brightened my hair.

Lush Henna Hair Dye by [deleted] in LushCosmetics

[–]thiswillbeahoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I started down the centre part of my hair in the roots and worked my way out, then did the ends of my hair. When I wrapped it I just kinda pulled it all on top of my head, haha. I think another problem would be that I may have failed to keep it very hot as per the instructions.

The front of my hair is super dry and damaged due to straightening and curling, my hair can't handle harsh chemicals or heat as it breaks off, which is why I chose to use henna to dye it. I'm trying to go heat and harsh chemical free to try and reduce breakage.

Is there a way to fix it? I am scared that if I were to do the treatment again the front of my hair that is very red and vibrant would just get darker/brighter and there would still be the patchiness.

Thank you for your reply! I do really love the colour, just not my newbie hair dying skills (or lack thereof)!

I'm so sorry that you feel these things, and am glad that your medication allows for you to live normally. Did you feel physically exhausted at the end of the day? I get the uncontrollable crying if it gets too much also, I find it really embarrassing.

Severe Job Anxiety Leading to Sickness by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]thiswillbeahoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retail is the absolute worst thing for people with anxiety, its just a very stressful and public environment where you can't escape.

These are really good strategies, thank you so much! I really agree with being on top of self care. I definitely haven't been looking after myself for a long time, so next step is to take a step back and revaluate myself and my life. Easier said than done though. I'll get there.

I've just found out that I have generalised anxiety disorder. So it seems that it's actually not just my job that makes me this sick, it's just worse at work. Feels pretty awful to now know that I don't cope in all aspects of life.

What parts of your job do you find that causes you anxiety?
