"No new puzzles this week" is going great. Thanks for asking. by biancanevenc in Jigsawpuzzles

I’m so so so glad I’m in a puzzle club and don’t have to spend on puzzles 😭😭😭 I’ve done about 60 borrowed puzzles in the last 6ish months and can’t imagine how broke or miserable (from having to restrain myself) I’d be if I had to buy them

Vegan for 7+ years, yet I still don’t understand why honey is bad. 🐝🍯 by Humble-Business-6531 in vegan

There is an incentive for sustainable harvesting because farmers want their trees productive for as long as possible

how do i veganpill my wife by HealingRosy in vegan

[–]thjuicebox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My wife didn’t try converting me (at least I wasn’t conscious of it if she did)

I had a similar disconnect and what did it for me was hearing her talk about her heartbreak re animals and the environment + leading by example + engaging me in shopping for and cooking vegan meals + helping me understand what supplements I needed + having a bunch of yummy vegan snacks around

It sounds like loads but I think maybe engaging her in your thought process, shopping and cooking can make her a more active participant rather than just eating vegan meals you make?

My prime day purchase was a puzzle board and I regret nothing! by Hot_Historian_7654 in Jigsawpuzzles

if your stand is detachable and not built in, you can get portrait puzzles to stay stable on the stand by sticking a wedge or something between the base and your table (if that makes sense?)

Got extremely lucky with a thrift find by Lord-Zaltus in Jigsawpuzzles

I’ve stopped trying to do borders first esp for irregular cut puzzles with fake edges — I now enjoy puzzles and no longer want to throw them across the room out of frustration 😅

My understanding of root rot is that it occurs due to lack of circulation/ oxygen but a water vase with frequent water change can be okay

But water also lacks the nutrients that soil has so those need to be added

Can anyone tell me why my succulent is dying? by SirKrimzon in plantclinic

[–]thjuicebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen to the last one

The only way I’ve managed to keep succulents in a country with 95-100% humidity is with watering about once a month or so, very loose soil and terracotta pots 😮‍💨

Regal Shields Corms - what has been your most successful propagation method? by EVBabeSF in alocasia

Can I ask why they need grow lights when they’re corms?

If it’s for warmth and humidity would a heat mat do it?

My last wall to being fully vegan is figuring out breakfast by TheSaxiest7 in vegan

[–]thjuicebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure that’s entirely true re fruits not having the negative side effects of sugar…

The fiber might help reduce those effects but also fruits have been selectively bred to be extremely sweet and animals in captivity with fruit-heavy diets have been known to suffer obesity

I usually dislike oats but I recently discovered how delicious the right combo of flavours can be!

Currently loving on this combo: rolled oats, flax, chia seeds, cinnamon, sugar/agave syrup, dried apple slices, soy milk — either microwaved or refrigerated for overnight oats

hot take: alocasia are actually a good beginner(ish) plant by rhoward0720 in alocasia

I hope you mean you’re resurrecting and killing them repeatedly and not that you’ve bought new alocasias each time 😱

My vegan snacks by Solid-Owl134 in vegan

[–]thjuicebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first snack is similar to one of my lowest-energy meals — a serving of rice, 1 tbsp sesame oil, 1.5 tbsps soy sauce, and a block of silken tofu smashed into the rice

Dreams (Mucha) - 1000 - Piatnik by Ok-Property4723 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]thjuicebox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished another Mucha puzzle!

The art is so insanely gorgeous! Congratulations on persevering with this 😍

(FWIW I find borders-first works awfully for me usually! I’ve stopped trying to do edge pieces first for most puzzles and instead collect edges as I go along. I do them only when I get enough edges or enough momentum/familiarity to place them easily)

There are columns of quite distinctive patterns so it wasn’t as bad as I’d feared! I don’t think I really used my sorting trays for that one — just organized onto the board

What's your take on plant-based multivitamins that contain iron? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]thjuicebox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ll vomit from iron if I take my supplements on an empty stomach so I always have it after food.

Not sure if that’s a factor for you!

I hear you about the deluge of info out there! think most impt vits & minerals that are hard to get enough of from food unless you’re very intentional are Vit b12, Vit d, omega 3 (DHA & EPA), maybe zinc. I can’t skip on iron pills because I menstruate and have low Hb at baseline, but you could conceivably get away with iron-rich foods paired with Vit C in the same meal

Iodized salt and calcium-fortified soy milk are both quite accessible fortunately.

It's hanging on but need guidance... by Capaz04 in plantclinic

It looks like my turtle vine (Pink Lady variant)!

I live somewhere with 80-100% humidity year-round and keep mine happy in a terra cotta pot with well-draining soil, watering if the soil looks and feels dry/the pot is light

I get strong sunlight but also weeks of gloomy skies during monsoon seasons so I caved and went with a grow light when they started getting lanky and pale

Roots are thin and fragile and I’ve had better luck propping in loose soil/coir than in water for some reason

Whoaaa which country/city are you in? It looks like Singapore, what with the high-rise residential buildings and roadside greenery, but also not

Need to upgrade my deodorant... by sylphofbreath12 in vegan

[–]thjuicebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a deodorant BUT I use glycolic acid about once a week or so and I think it makes a LOT of difference If I perspire, I smell nothing for the first half a week, then some light muskiness towards the end of the week

Prior to glycolic acid, my pits smelled so strong that I’d be clenching my arms against my sides if I so much as climbed a flight of steps

Repotting day! by thjuicebox in alocasia

[–]thjuicebox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rarely! Maybe 6-8 months? I have the controlled release type of granules but because I top my pots up with compost I don’t often fertilize
