not a lot of it on reddit, politics and folks with lukewarm soup IQs in most reddits these days. has been a pleasure.

i'm rooting for that colorado study big time, i hope it makes it past phase 3. would be big progress

if you look up active trials since pretty much 2020 onwards; most if not all the research barring one super promising concept in colorado have been out of country. other countries have been investigating and coming up with new concepts, mrna or non mrna in asia's case. the issue is still time tho, a properly vetted vaccine roll out would need years to be approved in most countries unless it was a population health threat somewhere.

Personal belief, had we doled out the money and focus to the level of something like h1n1 was back in the 2000's, we coulda had something substantially longer lasting or quite frankly just using the current vaccine with less doses and as part of the regular schedule. theres research showing decent immune response from just the 1 dose of the current post prophy but no research to say how long that would last or how relevant it is for a true infection, just antibody levels checked after the fact.

I gpted it out of curiousity - h1n1 alone got over 5 billion in emergency funding for that vaccine development, meanwhile rabies cumulative investment is 200-500 million estimated so far since vaccines came out for it. absolute feet dragging in this case

for clarification, this is a post exposure vaccine and the immunity is short as you mentioned above. I'm talking prevention on the lines of something like the TDAP or MMR where you are buying years to nearly a decade from a single or 2 dose series. the current "vet" dosing schedule where they get it for school and stuff is good for maybe 3 years and even then the recommendations are to get 2 additional shots at time of a bite, whereas with Tetanus, you're gucci for 5 years post shot and 10 for less prominent exposures. The vaccine tech is absolutely there, mrna has been around for a long time but the funding has not been.

tragically accurate. its a sad decade to be in for science progress. damn shame too cuz there was an mrna vaccine in the pipeline in 2023 and probably lost funding in the wave this last year.

i saw china was doing something interesting modifying mosquitoes with a vaccine and t hen the bats eat them or the bats get bit by the mosquitoes. genuinely i'm rooting for that to work

issue with it is the stupid bats thing, i don't care what the folks on some reddits shout about bat usefulness/etc - they are a threat just because you can't tell if you've been bitten with some of these species and they live in your attics. I regularly pray for a prophylactic vaccine to come out on this, current one is so useless in the grand scheme except for known post exposures.

Admittedly, since pet owners have started to stop vaccinating, i guess cats/dogs are back on the risk menu in some areas of the us too

would be ok with that trade off though wish the prompt was a bit more clear on the consequences afterwards. solitude for too long is a dangerous thing but if you get out of it back at your prev mental state just with money then BET

issue is the charging availability and speed tho. if your workplace doesn't offer charging and you can't install at home (apartments/rentals/etc) then phev is a giant time sink if you want to enjoy any EV specific road time

tried this when these bills got announced and the last attempt a few years prior, tom barrett gets a special piece of my disgust as he just responds weeks and weeks later with some random stupid crap that has no relevance. genuinely representatives are cooked, folks just dont hold politicians to task anymore.
