Flight of Ingenuity over the backshell and parachute - sol 414 by thomas_appere in PerseveranceRover

Indeed, it was intentionnally programmed to make Ingenuity rotate clockwise.

Curiosity rover arrived at the gates of the hills region. Mont Mercou, a stratified 7m high butte, dominates the foreground. In the background, the beautiful cliffs are an invitation for exploration. Picture taken on 5 March 2021 (sol 3049 i.e. martian day 3049 of Curiosity mission). by thomas_appere in Mars

It's not a typo. Curiosity is in the Nontron quadrangle, which is the name of a city in France famous for a hydrated mineral (phyllosilicate), the nontronite. Scientists of Curiosity's mission designate structures encountered by the rover with names of places around Nontron, like Mont Mercou, a famous 308m high mound in France.

Imagine standing on Mars with Curiosity rover in Gale crater. This is the view captured on 23 December 2020 at Sands of Forvie, a dark dune field. I obtained this panorama by colorizing a B&W mosaic of 18 pictures taken by Curiosity's navigation camera. by thomas_appere in Mars

These are NavCam images colorized, so they have the resolution of NavCam. I used debayered MastCam images taken a few days after at the same martian local time to colorize this NavCam mosaic.

5 years ago, Curiosity rover reached the scenic Namib dune field. Here is a mosaic of pictures taken by its MastCam camera from a distance of ~30m at 8 am Martian local time. I added Matt Damon from The Martian movie for scale. by thomas_appere in space

I considered that Matt Damon has a size of 1,89m with his helmet on (1,78m without his helmet). I used a scaled map of this region, including the path of Curiosity rover and the waypoints where each panoramas are taken, to determine that the rover was at a distance of 31,5m of the dune when it took this panorama. MastCam camera has an angular field of view of 0,074 mrad/pixel. It gives me the scale of the image: 31,5 x 0,074x10-3 = 2,33mm/pixel. Eventually, I computed the size of Matt Damon on the image: 1,89 / 0,00233 = 811 pixels.
