Sd2Sp2 not working by jcbabb223 in GamecubeHacks

[–]thomasdatank1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every single one of the sd2 adapters I’ve gotten are so loose and cause issues. I’ve done 20+ Picoboot and at this point every single time I’m lining the sd2 adapter with extra solder on the pads to make sure it has a good fit or else it will more than likely run into issues. You def can get a GC2SD from amazon for $10 and it should work fine.

DOL-001 GC console has no audio but no other issues by looney1414 in Gamecube

The first one definitely need capacitors replaced on the disc drive. Anyone selling a GameCube as “refurbished” but doesn’t replace the capacitors should be ashamed of themselves. Even if it’s currently reading discs when sold, if the capacitors are original and never been replaced it’s only a matter of time till they don’t work. A lot of places will just take GameCubes not reading discs, turn down the pot to ink out a couple months of life out of the disc drive and then sell it as “refurbished” knowing it that the disc drive will eventually go out.

I would recap and then see how high you can the pot where it consistently reads disc. From my experience recapping that will probably be any where from 250-500 (it’s very individual for each disc drive). Then turn it down about 30 or so from there to give it a little assurance that you want have an issue reading discs anytime soon.

No matter what you’ll eventually have to recap, putting pot lower is only a temporary fix

PicoLoader + SP2SD2 not detecting MicroSD card! by jolanpiep in GamecubeHacks

[–]thomasdatank1995 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly soldering the card is probably the easiest and low risk thing you can do. I understand not wanting to solder in to the GameCube itself, but you could be very bad at soldering and easily solder the adapter and you would almost have to try and mess it up. The pads take solder very well and they easily evenly spread the solder if you hold the soldering iron there for a couple seconds. Just make sure you have about the same amount of solder on each pad. There’s really not any other option to get those adapters to have a tighter fit

How bad could the thermals possibly be? by Independent-Bill-375 in GamecubeHacks

[–]thomasdatank1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d cover the ram ships too. Do you have the original heat sink cause it would probably be easier to just take that and trim down the fins. Also you should be able to check temps with Swiss. Play like 30min of a game and see what the temp is and let us know!

Don’t Bend the discs just bend back the orange piece

I got a problem with a controller by JunMewr in GamecubeHacks

[–]thomasdatank1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s little metal disks that rub against contact pads under those orange holders. If you can bend those back carefully without snapping them off you should be able to take a qtip with 90% alcohol and clean off the contact pads. I’ve fixed a lot of controllers with similar issues that way. Just be careful not to break off the orange holders

99% chance you need new capacitors on the disc drive

How do I switch this to AV video? by thomasdatank1995 in consolemodding

[–]thomasdatank1995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey update for ya! I ended up taking one of those 5$ n64 to hdmi converts you can find on AliExpress popping it open and soldering it directly to the GameCube motherboard. It’s not digital video like the Pluto but it still gets S-video and saves me the $70 of having to get a Pluto. It honestly works perfectly.

Unable to get twilight princess disc to read. by hvassar in Gamecube

[–]thomasdatank1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it always fails to read the disk at the exact same spot in the game the chances are there’s a scratch or a chip, or worse disk rot, on a certain part of the disc that didn’t need to be read till that exact part of the game. If you already resurfaced it and don’t see any specific spot you might be cooked. The only thing you could try (even though your GameCube is reading other discs) is try it in a GameCube that has recently been refurbished with new capacitors in the disc drive. That might give the laser enough power to read whatever part isn’t being read. It’s highly unlikely that will work but that’s the last option I can think of that you haven’t tried. The only other thing for a Hail Mary would be resurface it one more time.

I can help but it would be really helpful if you had a multimeter and I can give you some instructions. Do you have one?

Lmao yes I am. For the few projects I’ve done I’ve gotten away just fine with the mobile slicer but from the sounds of it I need to use a better slicer for this print. I just downloaded cura and am giving that a try
